2011–12 Montreal Stars Season
The 2011-12 season was the Les Canadiennes de Montréal, Montreal Stars' 5th season in the Canadian Women's Hockey League The previous year, they attempted to win their third Clarkson Cup, Clarkson Cup Championship, the main championship within the league. They eventually lost 5-2 to the Worcester Blades, Boston Blades in the championship game of the series in Markham, Ontario, Markham, Ontario, Canada. With the first pick overall in the 2011 CWHL Draft, the Montreal Stars selected Meghan Agosta from Mercyhurst College. Les Canadiennes De Montréal
Les Canadiennes de Montréal were a professional Women's ice hockey, women's ice hockey team based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Founded in 2007 as the Montreal Stars (Stars de Montréal), they competed in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) in every season. The team appeared in and won the Clarkson Cup the most times out of any CWHL teams with four championships. In 2015, the team became an affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League, with the franchise providing resources and marketing support to the team as part of their efforts to help promote women's hockey. This affiliation also led to its re-branding as ''Les Canadiennes'' for the 2015–16 CWHL season, adopting colours and jerseys resembling those of their men's counterpart. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the Blue line (ice hockey), blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Catherine Herron
Catherine Herron (born 24 June 1983) is a Canadian ice hockey goalie and coach. Biography Early life Catherine Herron started playing hockey at the age of 8, encouraged by her uncle, Denis Herron, a goalie who played for the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins and Kansas City Scouts. She played on boys' teams until the age of 14. Playing career Herron played 2 seasons (2002–03 and 2003–04) for the St. Lawrence College Patriots in the AA College Women's Hockey League then 4 years with the McGill University Martlets in the Canadian University Championship. In 2009–10, Herron was the first goalkeeper on the inaugural women's hockey team of the University of Montreal Carabins. She played 15 games with a 2.95 average and a .904 save average. McGill Martlets Ice Hockey
The McGill Martlets ice hockey team represents McGill University, based in Montreal, Quebec in U Sports women's ice hockey. They are members of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and have won four U Sports women's ice hockey championships. Some players have participated internationally, including in the World Student Games. Home games are played at McConnell Arena. Origin name The origin of name "Martlet" is used in reference to the coat of arms of McGill University, which includes three birds. Dorval (; ) is an Greater Montreal, on-island suburban City (Quebec), city on the island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. Hockey East
The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. Hockey East came into existence in 1984 for men's hockey when most of its current members split from what is today known as ECAC Hockey, after disagreements with the Ivy League members. The women's league began play in 2002. On October 5, 2011, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish (an ACC member outside football) announced they would be joining Hockey East as the conference's first non-New England school in 2013 after the CCHA folded. Boston University Terriers Women's Ice Hockey
The Boston University Terriers women's ice hockey represent Boston University. The Terriers play in the Hockey East conference. From 2010 to 2015, the Terriers won five Hockey East Championships and made six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). Catherine Ward
Catherine Ward (born February 27, 1987) is a member of the Canada women's national ice hockey team. She was also a member of the 2008–09 McGill Martlets women's hockey season, which won a Canadian Interuniversity Sport title. She was drafted 7th overall by the Montreal Stars in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Ward established herself as one of Canada's stars on the blue line playing for the Canadian U22 team and for the 2009 Women's World Championship team and the 2010 Olympic gold medal winning team. While with Martlets at McGill University, Ward set a QSSF record for points by a defenseman, and in 2007 became the first Martlet to earn the CIS rookie-of-the-year honour since the inception of the award in 2001.
