2010 WNBA Draft
The 2010 WNBA draft is the league's annual process for determining which teams receive the rights to negotiate with players entering the league. The draft was held on April 8, 2010. The first round was shown on ESPN2 ( HD), while the second and third rounds were shown on NBA TV and ESPNU. A lottery was held on November 5, 2009. The Minnesota Lynx received the first overall selection of the draft. The Sacramento Monarchs received the number two selection. The Connecticut Sun came up with the third overall selection, followed by the Minnesota Lynx again at four, and the Chicago Sky at number five. Additionally, on December 14, 2009, the WNBA held a dispersal draft to re-assign players from the Sacramento Monarchs who folded at the end of 2009 WNBA season. 2009 WNBA Season
The 2009 WNBA season was the 13th season of the Women's National Basketball Association. It is the first WNBA season without a Houston franchise, the Houston Comets, Comets having folded in December 2008. The season ended with the Phoenix Mercury winning their second championship in three years. The regular season began with a televised (American Broadcasting Company, ABC) meeting between the defending champion Detroit Shock and the Los Angeles Sparks in Los Angeles on June 6. Lindsay Whalen
Lindsay Marie Whalen (born May 9, 1982) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Whalen played college basketball at the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's basketball, University of Minnesota, and led the team to its only NCAA tournament Final Four appearance in 2004. Selected fourth overall in the 2004 WNBA draft by the Connecticut Sun, Whalen played for 15 seasons in the WNBA with the Sun and the Lynx, and is considered one of the best Point guard, point guards in WNBA history. Temeka Rochelle Johnson (born September 6, 1982) is an American former professional basketball player. Her primary position was a point guard. Lindsey Marcie Harding (born June 12, 1984) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. She is an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Sidney Spencer (born March 7, 1985) is an American professional basketball player who most recently played for the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA.
