2010 Orange County, Florida Mayoral Election
The 2010 Orange County, Florida, mayoral election took place on November 2, 2010. Incumbent Republican mayor Richard Crotty was unable to seek re-election due to term limits, and four candidates ran to replace him. A nonpartisan primary election was held on August 24, 2010, but because no candidate won a majority of the vote, former county commissioner Teresa Jacobs, a Republican, advanced to a runoff election against fellow county commissioner Bill Segal, a Democrat. Following a contentious general election, Jacobs was elected mayor over Segal in a landslide, winning her first term 68–32. Florida State Road 429
State Road 429 (SR 429), also known as the Daniel Webster Western Beltway or Western Expressway south of US 441, and the Wekiva Parkway north of US 441, is a controlled-access toll road built and maintained by the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX), the Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Its mainline extends from I-4 (SR 400) in Four Corners north to I-4 in Sanford. Control cities are Apopka and Tampa although the control cities for traffic at the entrances at US 441 and north are Orlando, Tampa, and Daytona Beach. Tildenville, Florida
Tildenville is a census-designated place (CDP) and an unincorporated area in Orange County, Florida, United States. The population was 511 at the 2010 census, most of them African American. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Generally speaking, Tildenville is a narrow area alongside Orange County Road 545, south of Florida State Road 50 and north of the Stoneybrook West planned unit development. Residents utilize Winter Garden, Florida for mail delivery. The CDP takes its name from Luther F. Tilden, a prominent pioneer and citrus magnate who greatly contributed to the community. Florida Police Benevolent Association
The Florida Police Benevolent Association is a state-wide police union established in 1972, with a reported total membership of over 36,000. The union is "politically proactive", engaged in labor negotiations, advocacy, legal defense, and political endorsements. It's organized into regional chapters: the South Florida PBA, with 6,500 members from over 40 agencies; the Big Bend PBA, with almost 500 members; West Central Florida BPA; the Broward County PBA; and others. Eatonville, Florida
Eatonville is a town in Orange County, Florida, United States, six miles north of Orlando. It is part of Greater Orlando. Incorporated on August 15, 1887, it was one of the first self-governing all-black municipalities in the United States. ( Brooklyn, Illinois, incorporated July 8, 1873, is the oldest incorporated Black town in the U.S.) The ''Eatonville Historic District'' and Moseley House Museum are in Eatonville. Author Zora Neale Hurston grew up in Eatonville and the area features in many of her stories. Belle Isle is a city in Orange County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,032 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gary Anthony Siplin (born October 21, 1954, in Orlando, Florida) was a Democratic member of the Florida Senate, representing the 19th District from 2003. Previously he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 through 2002. Siplin earned a B.A. in political science from Johnson C. Smith University, where he became a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning an M.A. in Public and International Affairs. His Juris Doctor was earned at the Duquesne University School of Law.
