2010 Dubai World Cup
The 2010 Dubai World Cup was a horse race held at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday 27 March 2010. It was the 15th running of the Dubai World Cup. It was the first edition of the Dubai World Cup to be run at Meydan on the synthetic Tapeta surface. The winner was Stud Estrela Energia's Brazilian-bred Glória de Campeão, a seven-year-old bay horse trained in France by Pascal Bary and ridden by T. J. Pereira. Glória de Campeão's victory was the first in the race for his jockey, trainer and owner and the first for a horse trained in France. Glória de Campeão had been trained in Brazil in the early part of his career before being transferred to the Bary's French stable in 2007. Although based in France, he was campaigned internationally, racing in Singapore, the United States and Dubai, finishing second in the 2009 Dubai World Cup on dirt and winning the Singapore Airlines International Cup on turf. Dubai World Cup
The Dubai World Cup (Arabic: كأس دبي العالمي) is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1996 and contested at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The race is operated by Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) and carries a purse of US$12 million. History The Dubai World Cup was created in 1996 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and the owner of Darley Stud & Godolphin Racing. Gio Ponti (horse)
Gio Ponti (foaled February 28, 2005 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred race horse who was the Champion Turf Horse in 2009 and 2010, and finished second to Zenyatta in the 2009 Breeder's Cup Classic. He was sired by Tale of the Cat, a son of Storm Cat, out of the stakes-placed Alydar mare Chipeta Springs, making him half-brother to stakes-winner Fisher Pond. During his racing career, Gio Ponti was owned by Castleton Lyons and trained by Christophe Clement. Racing career Named for a well-known Italian artist and architect, Gio Ponti began racing in the silks of Shane Ryan's Castleton Lyons Farm under trainer Christophe Clement and broke his maiden in his first start as a two-year-old at Belmont Park, winning by 2½ lengths. Twice Over
Twice Over (foaled 16 May 2005) is a British retired Thoroughbred racehorse and breeding stallion. He was a top-class middle-distance performer whose wins included the Eclipse Stakes, the International Stakes and two runnings of the Champion Stakes. Background Twice Over is a bay horse bred by Juddmonte Farms, the breeding operation of his owner Prince Khalid Abdullah. Throughout his racing career he was trained at Newmarket by Henry Cecil. Racing career 2007: two-year-old season Twice Over began his racing career in a maiden race over one mile at Newmarket Racecourse on 4 October. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 – February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. Ryan Lee Moore (born 18 September 1983) is an English flat racing jockey, who was British flat racing Champion Jockey, Champion Jockey in 2006, 2008 and 2009. Garrett Keith Gomez (January 1, 1972 – December 14, 2016) was an American Thoroughbred jockey who won two Eclipse Awards and thirteen Breeders' Cup races during his career. Racing career Early career Gomez learned to ride by watching his father, Louie, who was a jockey at many tracks in the Southwest United States. Kieren Francis Fallon (born 22 February 1965 in Crusheen, County Clare, Ireland) is a retired Irish professional flat racing jockey and was British flat racing Champion Jockey, British Champion Jockey six times.
