The 2010 BDO Classic Canadian Open was the third Grand Slam of Curling tournament of the 2009-10 curling season. It was held January 20-24 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. BDO Classic Canadian Open
The Canadian Open, is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament. It is one of the seven Grand Slams and four "majors" on the World Curling Tour, and the only one to use a triple knockout format. A women's event was introduced in the 2014–15 curling season. In 2021, when it was supposed to be held outside of Canada for the first time, it was going to just be called the Open. However, the event has not been held since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, the event will revert to its original name. The event features 16 men's and women's teams. Scott Pfeifer
Scott Pfeifer (born January 5, 1977 in St. Albert, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada who plays out of the St. Albert Curling Club in St. Albert. He was the long-time second for the Randy Ferbey rink from 1998 to 2010, winning four Briers and three World championships with the team. He later served as the alternate for the Kevin Koe rink with whom he won a Brier and world championship, and represented Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Pfeifer won the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and 1994 World Junior Curling Championships as a second for Colin Davison. At the 1997 Canadian Juniors Pfeifer threw fourth stones for Ryan Keane and would win his second national junior championship. He finished third at the '97 World Junior Curling Championships and became the '98 Shamrock Poor Boy champion. By 1999, he had joined the Randy Ferbey team, for whom he played second. Brent Laing
Brent George Laing (born December 10, 1978) is a Canadian curler from Horseshoe Valley, Ontario. He currently plays lead for Mike McEwen. He grew up in Meaford, Ontario. Career Curling out of the Ottawa Curling Club (in Ottawa) and later the Stayner Curling Club (in Stayner, Ontario), Laing played lead for John Morris until Morris left for Alberta in 2003. With Morris, Laing won the 1998 and 1999 Canadian Junior Curling Championships as well as the 1998 and 1999 World Junior Curling Championships. The team played in the 2001 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, but missed the playoffs after finishing with a 5-4 record. Richard Hart (curler)
Richard Hart (born October 14, 1968) is a Canadian curler from Pickering, Ontario. He is a Brier and world champion, as well as an Olympic silver medallist. He currently coaches the Mike McEwen rink. Career Hart attended his first Brier in 1995 as an alternate for Ed Werenich. It was his only major tournament experience before winning the 1997 Canadian Olympic trials as the third for the Mike Harris team. At the 1998 Winter Olympics, the team won a silver medal. He left the team in 2000, and joined up with Glenn Howard. Eventually with Howard, Hart would go to another Brier, in 2006 where they lost in the final. The following year, they won the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier and then the 2007 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario. In both events there were no playoffs, but a tie for first place after the round robin forced a tiebreaker. In 1980 he lost to John Kawaja and in 1981, he lost to John Base. Jamie Korab
Jamie A. Korab, ONL (born November 28, 1979 in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland) is a Canadian curler and politician. Korab was the lead for the gold medal-winning Canadian men's team at the 2006 Winter Olympics skipped by Brad Gushue. In the 2017 Newfoundland and Labrador municipal elections, Korab was elected to St. John's City Council representing Ward 3. Career Korab played in two Canadian Junior Curling Championships and three Briers before playing at the Olympics. At the 1997 Canadian Juniors, he played as a third for Randy Turpin. At the 2000 Canadian Juniors, he joined up Gushue as his second and they went all the way to the junior finals that year, losing to British Columbia's Brad Kuhn in the final. Ryan Fry
Ryan Bennett Fry (born July 25, 1978) is a Canadian curler currently living in Toronto and playing third on the Mike McEwen team. He previously played third for Team Brad Jacobs, and the team represented Canada and won the gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The team also won the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier. Fry won a silver medal at the 2013 World Men's Curling Championship. Career Fry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on July 25, 1978. Fry is a right-handed shooter and delivers "tuck" style. Mark Nichols (curler)
Mark Nichols, ONL (born January 1, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently plays third for the Brad Gushue rink. Nichols is a former Olympic champion curler, having played third for Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where the team won a gold medal. He also won a World Championship with Gushue in 2017. Career Nichols was born in Labrador City, Newfoundland, the son of Gerry and Helen Nichols. Nichols began curling at the age of 3 in Labrador City. Brad Gushue
Bradley Raymond Gushue, ONL ( ; born June 16, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Gushue, along with teammates Russ Howard, Mark Nichols, Jamie Korab and Mike Adam, represented Canada in curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won the gold medal by defeating Finland 10–4. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal. In addition to the Olympics, Gushue won the 2017 World Men's Curling Championship with teammates Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant, and Geoff Walker. Beausejour, Manitoba
Beausejour () is a town in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is 46 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, just west of the Canadian Shield and Whiteshell Provincial Park. The French name means "beautiful stay". The town is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead. Originally known as Stony Prairie, Beausejour was named in 1877 by Mrs H.W.D.
