The 2009–10 season is the Wellington Phoenix's third season of football in the A-League, Hyundai A-League, making it the longest running New Zealand team in the competition, surpassing the defunct New Zealand Knights. Wellington Phoenix Football Club is a professional association football, football club based in Wellington, New Zealand. It competes in the Australian A-League Men, under Professional sports league organization#Systems around the world, licence from Football Federation Australia. Phoenix entered the competition in the 2007–08 A-League, 2007–08 season after its formation in March 2007, by New Zealand Football to replace New Zealand Knights FC, New Zealand Knights as a New Zealand-based club in the Australian A-League competition. Since 2011, the club has been owned by ''Welnix'', a consortium of seven Wellington businessmen. Jon McKain
Jonathan "Jon" McKain (born 21 September 1982) is a Scottish Australian football player who retired from professional football in 2016 after a long and successful career. He played in countries including Romania, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia and was a fan favourite for his whole hearted displays and football abilities. After professional retirement, he played for the Rochedale Rovers in FQPL. He is generally a defender but can also play as a defensive midfielder. Ben Sigmund
Benjamin Robert Sigmund (born 3 February 1981) is a New Zealand former international footballer. He represented New Zealand at under-17, under-20 and senior level. Club career Born in Blenheim, Sigmund spent his early career with Football Kingz, Canterbury United, Fawkner Blues and Auckland City. He signed for the Wellington Phoenix in 2008. On 9 July 2012 he signed a two-year contract extension keep him with the club until 2015. On 18 December 2015, Sigmund announced that he would retire from professional football at the end of the season. He subsequently joined amateur side Cashmere Technical in 2016. Vince Lia
Vince Lia (born 18 March 1985) is an Australian professional football (soccer) player who plays for Essendon Royals in the National Premier Leagues Victoria 3. Born in Shepparton, Lia played youth football in Victoria before making his senior debut with South Melbourne in the National Soccer League. He spent one season with Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues in 2005 before joining Melbourne Victory in 2005 to play in the newly formed A-League. Lia next spent a decade at Wellington Phoenix, making over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions. He returned to Australia in 2017, signing with Adelaide United. David Mulligan
David James Mulligan (born 24 March 1982) is a New Zealand former football player and head coach. Born in England, he began his career at Barnsley, making his first-team debut in October 2001. He became a first-team regular in the 2001–02 and 2002–03 seasons before joining Doncaster Rovers in February 2004. He helped the club to the Third Division title in the 2003–04 campaign. He was signed to Scunthorpe United in June 2006 and won the League One title with the club in 2006–07. He was loaned out to Grimsby Town in November 2007 and took a free transfer to Port Vale in January 2008. He returned to New Zealand six months later to sign with A-League club Wellington Phoenix.
