2009–10 New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball Team
The 2009–10 New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team represented the University of New Mexico as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos were coached by third-year head coach Steve Alford and played their home games at The Pit, newly renamed from its previous official name of University Arena, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Lobos finished the season 30–5, 14–2 in Mountain West play to capture the regular season championship. They advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament before being defeated by eventual champion San Diego State. They received an at–large bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, earning a 3 seed in the East Region. Steve Alford
Stephen Todd Alford (born November 23, 1964) is an American men's college basketball coach and former professional player who is the head coach for the Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball, Nevada Wolf Pack of the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Born and raised in Indiana, he was a two-time consensus first-team NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans, All-American playing in college for the Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball, Indiana Hoosiers. He led them to a national championship in 1987. After playing professionally for four years in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he has been a college head coach for over 30 years. Alford was named Indiana Mr. Basketball in high school before playing at Indiana University Bloomington under coach Bobby Knight. He helped the Hoosiers claim their fifth national championship, and finished his career as Indiana's all-time leading scorer. Curtis Dennis
Curtis Lamont Dennis (born January 15, 1988) is a Former American professional basketball player from the Bronx, New York. He first attended the University of New Mexico, then transferred to University of Toledo, and finished his collegiate career at Iona College. In high school, he attended St. Raymond High School for Boys, than transferred to Blessed Sacrament-St. Gabriel High School where he graduated in 2006. After graduating he went to Houston Inner City Academy/Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, Texas. After completing a full year there he later transferred to Findlay Prep Academy in Henderson, Nevada. Dennis played for Tadamon Zouk in Lebanon, and is currently retired. Phillip Michael McDonald (born July 25, 1989) is an American professional basketball player. He began his college career playing for the New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team. Born in Cypress, Texas, McDonald was the starting shooting guard for the Lobos the first three years he has played, and provided experience and depth off the bench for the Lobos his senior year. High school McDonald attended Cypress Springs High School in Cypress, Texas, and garnered a number of accolades during his four-year career. During his senior year for the Panthers, McDonald led Cypress Springs to a 32–7 record while averaging 19 points en route to being named the 17-5A District Most Valuable Player.
