2009–10 Georgian Cup
The 2009–10 Georgian Cup (also known as the ''David Kipiani Cup'') was the 66th season overall and twentieth since independence of the Georgia (country), Georgian annual Association football, football tournament. The competition began on 25 August 2009 and ended with the Final on 26 May 2010. The defending champions were FC Dinamo Tbilisi, Dinamo Tbilisi. FC Dinamo Tbilisi
FC Dinamo Tbilisi ( ka, დინამო თბილისი, ) is a Georgian professional football club based in Tbilisi that competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the top flight of Georgian football. Dinamo Tbilisi was one of the most prominent clubs in Soviet football and a major contender in the Soviet Top League almost immediately after it was established in 1936. The club was then part of one of the leading sport societies in the Soviet Union, the All-Union Dynamo sports society which had several other divisions besides football and was sponsored by the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs. Its main claim to European fame was winning the Cup Winners' Cup in 1981, beating FC Carl Zeiss Jena of East Germany 2–1 in the final in Düsseldorf. The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა; ) is the top Division (sport), division of professional top tier Association football, football in Georgia (Country), Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017, the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. 2008–09 Umaglesi Liga
The 2008–09 Umaglesi Liga was the twentieth season of top-tier football in Georgia. It was scheduled to begin in August 2008, but the start of the league was delayed due to the 2008 South Ossetia war. The first round of games finally took place on 13 and 14 September 2008. The season ended with the 33rd round played on 23 May 2009. Dinamo Tbilisi were the defending champions. The league was reduced from 14 to 12 teams prior to this season. However, Ameri Tbilisi voluntarily withdrew from the competition in mid-July because of financial reasons. As no replacement team was announced, the league featured only 11 teams. Promotion and relegation Merani Tbilisi, Dinamo Batumi and Dila Gori were relegated at the end of the previous season due to finishing 12th through 14th, respectively. FC Gagra
FC Gagra ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი გაგრა) is a Georgian football club, which competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the first tier of Georgian football. The club has its origins in Gagra, Abkhazia. It was founded in Tbilisi by former player and coach Goderdzi Chikhradze and his cousin in 2004 with a plan to move the club to Gagra in the end, but due to the ongoing Abkhazia conflict the team plays its home games in Tbilisi. FC Gagra is the only non-top flight Georgian team which has twice won the national cup. FC Aragvi Dusheti
FC Aragvi ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი არაგვი) is a Georgian association football club. Following the 2024 season, the team was relegated to Liga 3, the third tier of Georgian football. Although registered in Dusheti, Aragvi have not played there since 2019, holding home matches in Mtskheta, Tbilisi and Sartichala instead. History Established in 1954, during the Soviet period Aragvi mainly participated in the East group of Georgian republican league 2. In the 2008–09 season, the team played in the Meore Liga. Shiola Shiolashvili led the team to first place in the third tier. FC Samtredia ( ka, სკ სამტრედია), commonly known as Samtredia, is a Georgian professional football club based in the city of Samtredia. Following the 2024 season, the club was relegated to Erovnuli Liga 2, the 2nd tier of Georgian football. Their home ground is the Erosi Manjgaladze Stadium. In 2016, Samtredia won the league and the Super Cup. FC Meshakhte Tkibuli
FC Meshakhte ('' Georgian'': საფეხბურთო კლუბი მეშახტე) is a Georgian association football club based in Tkibuli. Following the 2024 season in Liga 3, the club earned promotion to Erovnuli Liga 2, the second tier of Georgian football. History Meshakhte participated in the Georgian Soviet league and twice, in 1980 and 1981, became champions. In 1964 and 1976 they also won the domestic Cup. FC Chiatura
FC Magaroeli is a Georgian football club from Chiatura. Since the 2023 season they have been competing in Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of Georgian football. The team has twice participated in the top tier. History Formed in 1923, Chiatura won the Georgian championship in 1975, and also clinched the domestic Cup title in 1978 and 1979. The club spent four seasons in the Soviet Second league. In 1992/93 season the club finished second in Pirveli Liga which paved the way for Umaglesi Liga in 1993/94. FC Mertskhali ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი მერცხალი ოზურგეთი; English: Swallows) is a professional football club based in Ozurgeti, Guria, Georgia. The team competes in Liga 4, the fourth tier of Georgian football. Mertskhali have spent four seasons in Umaglesi Liga, the top Georgian division. FC Zugdidi
FC Dinamo Zugdidi is a defunct Georgian football club based in Zugdidi. In 2023, after being accused of match-fixing and expelled from the Erovnuli Liga 2 the previous season, the club took part in Liga 4 and stopped functioning following their relegation to Regionuli Liga. History The club was founded in 1918 as Odishi Zugdidi. In 1990, FC Odishi Zugdidi were promoted for the first time to the Umaglesi Liga, the top division of Georgian football. In the 1998–99 season they finished 15th and were relegated to the Pirveli Liga. Ahead of the 2001–02 season the club changed its name to FC Lazika Zugdidi and the following season the club won promotion back to the Umaglesi Liga. FC Guria Lanchkhuti
FC Guria ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი გურია) is a Georgian association football club from Lanchkhuti. Following the 2024 season they were relegated to Liga 4, the fourth tier of the national league. Being one of the strongest Georgian teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Guria played in the Soviet Top league, and also won the national Cup.
