2009–10 Appalachian State Mountaineers Men's Basketball Team
The 2009–10 Appalachian State Mountaineers men's basketball team represented Appalachian State University in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mountaineers were led by head coach Buzz Peterson in his first year leading the team in his second stint as Appalachian State's head coach after returning to the team in April of 2009. Appalachian State played their home games at the George M. Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, North Carolina, as members of the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers finished conference play with a 13–5 record and won the Southern Conference's North division. In the SoCon tournament, Appalachian State won two games to advance to the SoCon championship game, where they were defeated by South division champion Wofford. Buzz Peterson
Robert Bower "Buzz" Peterson Jr. (born May 17, 1963) is an American basketball executive who is the assistant general manager for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has also coached college basketball, most recently as the head coach of the UNC Wilmington Seahawks men's basketball team. He was fired by UNC Wilmington at the conclusion of the 2014 season. Peterson was the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers basketball team for four years before being fired in 2005. He previously coached a second stint at Appalachian State—he coached the 2009–10 Mountaineers, as well as the 1996 to 2000 squads. Previously, he was the men's basketball head coach at the University of Tulsa and at Coastal Carolina University, a position he held until mid-2007, when he left the program to be executive (Director of Player Personnel) with the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA. ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center
ETSU Athletics Center, previously known as the Memorial Center, and popularly referred to as the "Mini-Dome", is an 8,539-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Until 2014, it hosted ETSU's men's and women's basketball teams. It also serves as the indoor venue for tennis and track. At one time, the facility also hosted ETSU's football team, but the school discontinued its football program at the end of the 2003 season as a cost-cutting measure. The football team was reinstated in 2015, but did not return to the facility; the Buccaneers played the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Kermit Tipton Stadium, a local high school facility, before opening the new William B. The 2009–10 East Tennessee State Buccaneers men's basketball team represented East Tennessee State University in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Buccaneers, led by head coach Murry Bartow, played their home games at the Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. After finishing 5th in the conference regular season standings, the Buccaneers won the A-Sun tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 16 seed in the East region.
