2009 Summer Universiade
The 2009 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXV Summer Universiade, was celebrated in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1 to 12, 2009. The event has also been organised by a range of co-host cities mostly in Vojvodina (Serbian Autonomous Province), close to Belgrade. It was the largest sporting event ever to be organised by the city. At this Universiade the biggest star was the Russian rhythmic gymnast Evgeniya Kanaeva, who won 5 gold medals. Russia was the leading nation in the medal table, with the most gold medals (27) and most medals (76). Bidding process The bidding process for the 2009 Summer Universiade games began in early 2004. Together with Belgrade, another two cities bid for the event – Monterrey in Mexico and Poznań in Poland. European Youth Olympic Festival
The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is a biennial multi-sport event for youth (14 to 18 years old) athletes from the 50 member countries of the association of European Olympic Committees. The festival has a summer edition, held for the first time in Brussels in 1991, and a winter edition, which began two years later in Aosta. Obrenovac
Obrenovac ( sr-cyr, Обреновац, ) is a municipality of the city of Belgrade. According to the 2022 census results, the municipality has a population of 68,882 inhabitants, while the urban area has 25,380 inhabitants. The old name for Obrenovac was Palež. The largest Serbian thermal power plant TPP Nikola Tesla is located on the outskirts of the municipality. Inđija
Inđija (, ) is a town and a municipality located in the Srem District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. As of 2022, the town has total population of 24,450, while the municipality has 43,433 inhabitants. It is located in the geographical region of Syrmia. Name According to the legend, the name of the town comes from Turkish word "ikindia" – meaning evening prayer and is related to the time after 1699 when the town fell under Turkish rule. On the other hand, there is the claim that the town was named after the name of Orthodox women – Inđija. Old World sparrows are a group of small passerine birds forming the family (biology), family Passeridae. Nenad Bogdanović
Nenad Bogdanović ( sr-cyr, Ненад Богдановић, ; 12 May 1954 – 27 September 2007) was a Serbian politician who served as the mayor of Belgrade from 2004 to 2007. Education and career Bogdanović was born on 12 May 1954. He completed his high school education at Matematička gimnazija (a school of Special National Interest) and then graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Electrical Engineering, earning a Magister of Sciences in Electrical Engineering.
