2009 Sudirman Cup
The 2009 Sudirman Cup (World Mixed Team Badminton Championships) was held in the Guangzhou Gymnasium in China from May 10 to May 17, 2009, having been arranged in December 2005. It was the eleventh contest. Guangzhou has a tradition of staging badminton tournaments (The China Open was held in Guangzhou from 2005 to 2007, Thomas and Uber Cup in 2002 as well). The Sudirman Cup is part of the city's campaign of "hosting a major sporting event every year" in the run up to the 2010 Asian Games, which will be held in the same city. China defeated Korea to win the title for the seventh time. Host city selection Guangzhou is the only bidder for this event and later selected to host the tournament by Badminton World Federation during a council meeting in Kuala Lumpur. Sudirman Cup
The Sudirman Cup is an international badminton mixed team competition contested by member countries of the Badminton World Federation, the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every two years since the inaugural tournament in 1989. It used to be held at the same venue for the World Championships in the same year until the International Badminton Federation, now the BWF, decided to split the two tournaments starting from 2003. There are five matches in every Sudirman Cup tie which consists of men and women's singles, men and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The cup is named after Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player. The current champion is China, which won its 14th title at the 2025 tournament in China. Lee Hyo-jung (badminton)
Lee Hyo-jung (; ; born 13 January 1981) is a South Korean former badminton player. She won the gold medal in badminton mixed doubles at the Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 Summer Olympics with her partner, Lee Yong-dae. Lee Hyo-jung and Lee Yong-dae were unseeded, and in the finals they beat the top seeds and 2005 and 2007 world champions Lilyana Natsir and Nova Widianto of Indonesia, 21-11, 21-17. Lee Hyo-jung also won the silver medal in badminton women's doubles at the aforementioned Olympics with Lee Kyung-won; they were seeded fourth and lost to the second-seeded Chinese pair, Du Jing and Yu Yang (badminton), Yu Yang. China National Badminton Team
The China national badminton team () is a badminton team that represents the People's Republic of China in international badminton team competitions. In addition to the first national team, there is also the second national badminton team of China. Immediately afterward, there is the China National Badminton National Youth Team. Du Jing
Du Jing (; born 23 June 1984) is a former Chinese badminton player from Anshan, Liaoning. Career A doubles specialist, Du and her regular partner Yu Yang have steadily emerged as one of the world's elite women's doubles teams since 2004. They confirmed this status by winning the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing over South Korea's Lee Kyung-won and Lee Hyo-jung. Their other titles have included the Polish Open (2004); the China Masters (2005); the Asian Championships and Swiss Open in 2006; the Russian, Hong Kong, and Indonesia Opens in 2007; and the French, Korea, and Singapore Opens in 2008. Lee Kyung-won
Lee Kyung-won (; ; born 21 January 1980 in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province) is a badminton player from South Korea. Lee was the women's doubles gold medallist at the 2002 Asian Games. She competed at the Olympic Games in 2000, 2004, and 2008, winning women's doubles bronze in 2004, and silver in 2008. She captured the women's doubles gold at the Asian Championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Wang Yihan
Wang Yihan (born 18 January 1988) is a retired Chinese professional badminton player and former women's singles world champion and Olympic silver medalist. Wang started her career with her coach Wang Pengren at only nine years of age. She was selected for the junior team in 2004, and after being promoted to the senior team in 2006, she began to shine in major tournaments. Hwang Hye-youn
Hwang Hye-youn (; born April 3, 1985, in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province) is a retired female badminton player from South Korea. Hwang started playing badminton at 7, at her local elementary school. Hwang who educated at the Pocheon High School, competed at the 2002 Asian Junior Championships, and won the silver medal in the girls' team event. She entered the South Korea national team in 2004. Although she won national championships in 2005 and 2006, she wasn't known internationally until she beat reigning World Champion Xie Xingfang en route to the final of the 2006 Thailand Open. Later that year, Hwang won the bronze medal at the Doha Asian Games. Jung Jae-sung (also spelled Chung Jae-sung; ; ; 25 August 1982 – 9 March 2018) was a South Korean professional badminton player who specialized in men's doubles.
