Regional League Northern Division
Regional League Northern Region is the 3rd Level League in Thailand. It was formed in 2009 along with other four other regional leagues, all playing at the same level. The winner of each regional league enter the Regional League Championships to determine the three teams that will receive promotion to the Thai Division 1 League. League History Formed in 2009, 11 clubs applied to be part of the new setup; Chainat, Chiangmai United, Chiangrai United, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Sukhothai, Tak and Uttaradit. Chiangmai United and Phitsanulok were the only two teams with previous experience in the Thai football league system. Chiangrai United led the league from start to finish and duly won the first championship by 14 points. Chai Nat ( th, ชัยนาท, ) is a town (''thesaban mueang'') in central Thailand, capital of Chai Nat province. Phitsanulok Football Club (Thai สโมสรฟุตบอลจังหวัดพิษณุโลก), or Phitsanulok Football Club 2015, formerly Phitsanulok TSY Football Club, is a Thai semi professional football club based in city of Phitsanulok in Phitsanulok province. The club currently plays in the Thai League 3 Northern Region. History At the beginning of the 2009 season, Bangkok Bank F.C. withdrew from the league before the season began. FAT therefore decided that to fill the league with 16 teams, they would run a pre-season competition featuring the 4 relegated clubs from the Thailand Division 1 League 2008 season. Phitsanulok F.C. were one of these clubs, however, they were beaten by Nakhon Sawan in the semi-final 2–1, therefore relegated to Thai Division 2 League. Phichit ( th, พิจิตร, เมือง) is a town (''thesaban mueang'') in central Thailand, capital of Phichit Province. Phetchabun is a town (''thesaban mueang'') in Thailand, capital of Phetchabun Province. It covers the ''tambon'' Nai Mueang of the Phetchabun District, along the Pa Sak River. As of 2005, it had a population of 23,823. Phetchabun lies north of Bangkok. Kamphaeng Phet is a town (''thesaban mueang'') in central Thailand, former capital of the Kamphaeng Phet Province. It covers the complete ''tambon'' Nai Mueang of the Mueang Kamphaeng Phet district. As of 2020, it has a population of 28,817. History Kamphaeng Phet was an ancient outpost town during the Sukhothai period, as evidenced by the city walls and fortifications that remain today. Before the creation of the city, legends says that there were two cities present in the location; Chakangrao (ชากังราว) and Nakhon Chum (นครชุม).
