The 2009 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad cycle race took place on 28 February 2009. It was the 64th edition of the international classic Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and the first time after the name changed from Omloop Het Volk. The race was won by Thor Hushovd in an 18-man sprint in Ghent, ahead of Kevin Ista and Juan Antonio Flecha. Thor Hushovd
Thor Hushovd (born 18 January 1978) is a Norwegian former professional road bicycle racer. He is known for sprinting and time trialing; Hushovd is a three-time Norwegian national road race champion (2004, 2010, 2013), and was the winner of the 2010 World Road Race Championships. He was the first Norwegian to lead the Tour de France, and first Scandinavian to win the road race in cycling world road championship. He is also the Scandinavian with the most stage wins in Grand Tours. He is widely considered the greatest Norwegian cyclist of all time. He retired in September 2014. Klier moved into a managerial role with his final professional team, , after announcing his retirement as a rider on 13 May 2013. Marcus Burghardt (born 30 June 1983) is a former German professional road bicycle racer, who has retired from professional racing as a result of a severe wrist injury suffered at the Tour of Poland in 2021, where he crashed at a roundabout close to the finish of the first stage.
