UCI Track Cycling World Ranking
The UCI Track Cycling World Ranking is a track cycling ranking system based upon the results in all men's and women's Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI-sanctioned races over a twelve-month period. The ranking includes an individual and a nations ranking and includes the disciplines: individual pursuit, points race, scratch race, scratch, sprint (cycling), sprint, time trial, keirin, omnium (since 2010–11), team pursuit, team sprint and Madison (cycling), madison. The madison ranking was only for male riders until 2016–17. In 2021 and 2022 there was also an elimination race ranking. Simona Krupeckaitė
Simona Krupeckaitė (born 13 December 1982) is a Lithuanian former professional Track cycling, track cyclist. She is the UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Women's 500 m Time Trial, 2009 500 m Time Trial World Champion and World Record holder at 33.296s, and the UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Women's Keirin, 2010 Keirin World Champion. She also won the 2009, 2010 and 2016 Lithuanian Sportsperson of the Year award. In 2010 Krupeckaitė reached one more world record. This time she achieved 10.793 s record at Flying 200 m time trial event. She retired from competition after the conclusion of the 2021 UCI Track Champions League in December of that year. Jack Bobridge
Jack Bobridge (born 13 July 1989) is an Australian former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2010 and 2016. In 2019 he was convicted of drug dealing and sentenced to a four-year prison term. He admitted to using banned recreational drugs during his racing career, noting that he used cocaine in training leading up to major cycling events, including the Olympics. Career Bobridge's career combined both track and road cycling. In 2008, he was part of the Australian men's pursuit team that finished in fourth place at the Olympics, along with Graeme Brown, Mark Jamieson, Luke Roberts and Brad McGee. In May 2009, Bobridge signed with , with his contract starting on 1 January 2010 and had been contracted to race with the team until 2012. Valery Kaykov (born 7 May 1988) is a Russian former professional racing cyclist. Track In 2010 Kaykov won the individual pursuit at the U-23 European Track Championships. He was also part of the Russian team that won the team pursuit. At the 2011 European Track Championships Kaykov took bronze with the Russian team in the team pursuit. Kaykov was on the Russian team that won the team pursuit at the 2012 European Track Championships. He also took silver with Artur Ershov in the madison event. Kaarle McCulloch
Kaarle McCulloch (born 20 January 1988) is an Australian former professional track cyclist and four-time World Champion in the team sprint. She also won three golds at the Commonwealth Games and an Olympic bronze medal. She qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and rode in two events, the Women's Keirin, where she came ninth, and the Women's Sprint, where she came thirteenth. Early years McCulloch grew up in Gymea, New South Wales. She was a promising middle-distance runner and won middle-distance championships in the 400 metres and 800 metres events when she was 14, 15, and 16. When she was 17, her motivation in track and field waned and she turned to cycling to reinvigorate her Olympic dream. Her stepfather Ken Bates introduced her to track cycling. Team Sprint
The team sprint (also sometimes known as the Olympic sprint) is a track cycling event. Despite its name, it is not a conventional cycling sprint event – it is a three-rider team time trial held over three laps of a velodrome. The riders use a standard track bicycle which are single-speed with no freewheel or brakes. The current men's world record time is 40.949 seconds. This was set by the Netherlands team of Jeffrey Hoogland, Harrie Lavreysen and Roy van den Berg at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The women's world record of 45.186 seconds was set by the British team of Emma Finucane, Katy Marchant and Sophie Capewell also at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear.
