2008–09 Phoenix Coyotes Season
The 2008–09 Phoenix Coyotes season was the team's List of Arizona Coyotes seasons, 37th season, 30th season in the National Hockey League and 13th season as the Phoenix Coyotes. It saw the Coyotes attempt to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2002 Stanley Cup playoffs, 2002. However, during the month of March, they were eliminated from the playoffs, and ended up 13th in the NHL's Western Conference (NHL), Western Conference. Preseason The Phoenix Coyotes played eight preseason exhibition games to prepare for the regular season. Three games were at home, and the other five were on the road, including the franchise's first game back in Winnipeg, Manitoba, since the team moved from there to Phoenix in 1996. The Western Conference () is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. Mikael Karl Tellqvist (born 19 September 1979) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey goaltender who last played for Djurgårdens IF of the Swedish Hockey League, his second tenure with the club. Playing career Tellqvist was drafted 70th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He had played a total of 14 games for the Leafs before the 2005–06 season, spending most of his time with their then American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the St. John's Maple Leafs.
