2008–09 National Division Three South
The 2008–09 National Division Three South was the ninth and last season (22nd overall) of the National League 2 South, fourth division (south) of the England, English domestic rugby union competition using the name National Division Three South. The division was set to be re-branded National League 2 South for the following season due to an Rugby Football Union, RFU reshuffle of the entire league system. New teams to the division included Henley Hawks who were relegated from the 2007–08 National Division Two while promoted teams included Richmond F.C., Richmond (champions) and Worthing Rugby Football Club, Worthing Raiders (playoffs) from National League 3 London & SE, London Division 1, Chinnor R.F.C., Chinnor who returned after an absence of just one year as champions of National League 3 South West, South West Division 1 and finally Rugby Lions who were transferred from the 2008–09 National Division Three North to ensure that there was not an imbalance of teams between t ... National League 3 South West
Regional 1 South West (formerly South West Premier and National League 3 South West) is a level five league in the English rugby union system. It is one of six leagues at this level. When this division began in 1987 it was known as South West Division 1. The format of the league was changed at the beginning of the 2009–10 season following reorganisation by the Rugby Football Union, and the name change from National League 3 to South West Premier was introduced for the 2017–18 season by the RFU in order to lessen confusion for what is a series of regional leagues. Regional 1 South West, is the highest regional rugby union league covering South West England. The club finishing in first place is promoted to National League 2 West. Westcombe Park RFC is a rugby football club based in Orpington in south-east London. The name of the club comes from the Westcombe Park area of what is today part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, where the club was founded. Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club is an English professional rugby union club based in West London. The club's first team are the reigning RFU Championship champions of 2024–25 but were considered ineligible for promotion to Premiership Rugby as their home ground's capacity is too small. Barking RFC
Barking RFC is an English rugby union team based in Barking, east London and currently play in the ninth tier of the English rugby union league system, Essex 1. History Park Modern Old Boys The club was founded in 1930, under the name of Park Modern Old Boys. In 1926 the Park Modern School in Barking was founded and the headmaster decided that the school would play rugby, despite football being the most popular sport in the area. As a result, the Old Boys team was created four years later and won 16 out of 19 games in its inaugural season. Barking RFC Old Boys continued to prosper after the Second World War. In 1974 they were declared no longer an Old Boys team, and so were obliged to change their name to Barking Park RFC, which became Barking RFC in 1976. The 2000–01 National Division Three South was the first season (fourteenth overall) of the National League 2 South, fourth division (south) of the England, English domestic rugby union competition using the name National Division Three South. New teams to the division included Reading R.F.C., Reading and Blackheath F.C., Blackheath who were relegated from the 1999–2000 National League 1 while promoted teams included Basingstoke R.F.C., Basingstoke and Launceston Rugby Club, Launceston, champions of National League 3 London & SE, London Division 1 and National League 3 South West, South West Division 1 respectively. 2009–10 National League 1
The 2009-10 National League 1, previously known as National Division 2, is the first season of the third division of the English rugby union competitions since the professionalised format of the second division was introduced with widespread league changes made by the RFU. As the new second division would reduce teams from 16 to 12, there were plenty of new additions to National League 1, itself increasing from 14 to 16 teams, with Esher, Newbury, Manchester, Manchester and Sedgley Park all dropping down from the old National 1 while Nuneaton and London Scottish came up from the 2008–09 National Division Three North and 2008–09 National Division Three South respectively (these divisions themselves now renamed National League 2 North/South).
