The Liga ABF 2008–09 was the 52nd season of women's handball top flight in Spain since its establishment, running from 13 September 2008. to 23 May 2009. SD Itxako won the championship for the first time with a seven points advantage over Balonmano Sagunto. CBF Elda, Bera Bera, Mar Alicante and CB Elche Club Balonmano Elche, also known as Elche Mustang for sponsorship reasons, is a women's handball club from Elche in Spain. CB Elche competes in the División de Honor, the top tier in the Spanish league system. División de Honor Femenina de Balonmano or Liga Guerreras Iberdrola, named after the sponsorship of Iberdrola, is the premier women's professional handball league in Spain, administered by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM). It was established in 1952, and it is currently contested by twelve teams. The 4 last ranked teams are relegated to División de Honor Oro Femenina, a league newly created for the 2022-2023 season. For a long time, the 2nd level of the Spanish women's handball pyramid was División de Plata (the 3rd level as of now). CB Amadeo Tortajada
Club Balonmano Amadeo Tortajada was a handball team from Mislata, Valencia. Founded in 1975 in the Amadeo Tortajada school in Mislata, the team was better known for its sponsorship names: Constructora Estellés, Valencia Urbana, Ferrobús Mislata and lastly Cementos La Unión Ribarroja. Under the latter the team was relocated in 2004 to Riba-roja de Túria. Amadeo Tortajada was one of the leading Spanish teams, winning two national championships in 2006 and 2007, and five national cups between 1990 and 2006. It first made an impression in European competitions reaching the EHF Cup's semifinals in 1994 and 1996, and it subsequently made its debut in the Champions League in 1998, was the Cup Winners' Cup's runner-up in 1999 and became the first Spanish team to win the EHF Cup in 2000, also attaining a bronze medal in the subsequent Champions Trophy. BM Remudas
Balonmano Remudas, a.k.a. Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE for sponsorship reasons, is a Spanish professional women's team handball, handball club from Telde in the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. Founded in 1978, ten years later it was promoted to the División de Honor Femenina de Balonmano, División de Honor, where it has played since. Its best result is the first place in 2019. Remudas won the Women's EHF Challenge Cup, EHF Challenge Cup in 2016 and 2019.

The 2009–10 EHF Women's Champions League was the 17th edition of the EHF Women's Champions League, a team handball, handball competition for top women's clubs of Europe managed by the European Handball Federation. It was won by Danish club Viborg HK who defeated Romanian SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea (handball), CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea at the finals with an aggregate score of 60–52.
