2008–09 Japan Figure Skating Championships
The Japan Figure Skating Championships () are an annual figure skating competition organised by the Japan Skating Federation to crown the national champions of Japan. Medals are awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance at the senior level, although not every discipline is held every year due to a lack of participants. Junior-level skaters compete at the Japan Junior Figure Skating Championships. The results are among the criteria used to determine the Japanese entries to the World Figure Skating Championships, World Junior Figure Skating Championships, Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, and Winter Olympics, as well as the members of the Japanese national team. Nobuo Satō currently holds the record for winning the most Japan Championship titles in men's singles (with ten), while Midori Ito holds the record in women's singles (with nine). Many international and national figure skating competitions are organized yearly. The three levels of ISU international competition are senior, junior, and advanced novice. Non-elite skaters may also compete in 'Adult' competitions. Narumi Takahashi
is a Japanese retired pair skater and six-time Japanese national champion (2009-2012, 2014, 2015). With former partner Mervin Tran, she was the 2012 World bronze medalist, the 2010 Junior World silver medalist, and the 2010–11 Junior Grand Prix Final champion. They were the first pair to win a World medal for Japan. She has also skated with Ryo Shibata, Ryuichi Kihara and Alexandr Zaboev. Personal life Takahashi was born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Tim Koleto
is a retired American-born ice dancer. Competing for Japan with his ice dance partner and wife, Misato Komatsubara, they are the 2020 NHK Trophy gold medalists and five-time Japanese national champions (2018–21, 2023). Together, they also earned a silver medal from the team event at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Earlier in his career, Koleto competed with partner Yura Min for South Korea, winning the 2014 national title and placing tenth at the 2014 Four Continents.
