The 2008–09 Australian cricket season consists of international matches played by the Australian cricket team in Australia as well as Australian domestic cricket matches under the auspices of Cricket Australia. The season lasted from October 2008 to March 2009. Australian Cricket Team New Zealand and South Africa both toured Australia, playing Tests and ODI series. Sheffield Shield The Sheffield Shield opened on 10 October 2008. The season marked the return of the original name of the first-class competition, after being called "Pura Cup" since 1999. The final was a drawn match between Victoria and Queensland at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. Victoria won the cup by virtue of finishing at the top of the points table. One Day Domestic The Ford Ranger One Day Cup was won by Queensland, beating Victoria in the final on 22 February 2009 at the MCG. 2007–08 Australian Cricket Season
The 2007–08 Australian cricket season consists of international matches played by the Australian cricket team as well as Australian domestic cricket matches under the auspices of Cricket Australia. The season lasts from October 2007 to March 2008. Australian Cricket Team The national team reached the semi-finals of the one major international tournament during the season, the World Twenty20 in South Africa, and will also play a number of international matches during tours. Australia are confirmed to host six Test matches, 11 One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals, and play seven One-day Internationals abroad, all in a series with India. In addition, tours of Pakistan in March and West Indies in April are on the ICC Future Tours Programme, but no schedule has been confirmed. Stadium Australia, currently known as Accor Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a multi-purpose stadium located in the suburb of Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The stadium, which is sometimes referred to as Sydney Olympic Stadium, Homebush Stadium or simply the Olympic Stadium, was completed in March 1999 at a cost of A$690 million to host the 2000 Summer Olympics. The New South Wales cricket team (formerly nicknamed NSW Blues) are an Australian men's professional first class cricket team based in the Australian state ofNew South Wales. The team competes in the Australian first class cricket competition known as the Sheffield Shield and the limited overs One-Day Cup. KFC Twenty20 Big Bash
The KFC Twenty20 Big Bash was a domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The competition was organised by Cricket Australia, and sponsored by fast food chicken outlet KFC. Running over six seasons from 2005–06 to 2010–11, the Twenty20 Big Bash was the first top level domestic Twenty20 competition in Australia, contested by the six traditional Sheffield Shield state cricket teams. The competition was replaced by the franchise-based Big Bash League from 2011–12. Victoria was the most successful team during the tournament's running, winning four out of the six titles. Ford Ranger One Day Cup
The One-Day Cup, for which the prize was renamed the Dean Jones Trophy from the 2024–25 season, is an Australian domestic List A 50-over limited-overs cricket tournament. It has had many different names, formats and teams since the inaugural 1969-1970 season. Initially a knockout cup, the competition now features a single round-robin followed by a finals series. The tournament is contested between teams representing the six states of Australia, who also compete in the first-class Sheffield Shield. Three other teams have also played in the tournament for short periods of time: New Zealand's national team competed from 1969–70 until the 1974–75, Australian Capital Territory participated from 1997–98 until 1999–2000, and a select Cricket Australia XI took part as the seventh team for three seasons from 2015–16 until 2017–18. Junction Oval
Junction Oval (also known as the St Kilda Cricket Ground, or the CitiPower Centre due to sponsorship reasons) is a historic sports ground in the suburb of St Kilda in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The oval's location near the St Kilda Junction gave rise to its name. It is located approximately five kilometres south from the centre of Melbourne and is in the southernmost part of the large Albert Park sporting precinct. The oval is the administrative headquarters of Cricket Victoria, and was redeveloped between 2015 and 2018 for that purpose. Victorian Bushrangers
The Victoria cricket team is an Australian first-class men's cricket team based in the Australian state of Victoria. The men’s team, which first played in 1851, represents the state of Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield first-class competition and the Marsh One Day Cup 50-over competition. It was known as the Victorian Bushrangers between 1995 and 2018, before dropping the Bushrangers nickname and electing to be known as simply Victoria in all cricket competitions.
