2008–09 Albanian Cup
2008–09 Albanian Cup () was the fifty-seventh season of Albania's annual cup competition. It began on September 24, 2008 with the First Preliminary Round and ended on May 6, 2009 with the Final. The winners of the competition qualified for the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League#Second qualifying round, second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. KF Vllaznia Shkodër, Vllaznia were the defending champions. The rounds were played in a two-legged format similar to those of European competitions. If the aggregated score was tied after both games, the team with the higher number of away goals advanced. If the number of away goals was equal in both games, the match was decided by extra time and a Penalty shootout (association football), penalty shootout, if necessary. Klubi i Futbollit Vllaznia Shkodër, commonly known as Vllaznia is an Albanian football (soccer), football club based in the city of Shkodër. It is the association football branch of the Vllaznia Sports Club, which was founded on 16 February 1919. It is also the oldest club in Albania which means it is the first club created in Albania. Kategoria e Parë is the second tier of professional football in Albania Albania ( ; or ), officially the Republic of Albania (), is a country in Southeast Europe. 2008–09 Kategoria Superiore
The 2008–09 Kategoria Superiore was the 73rd season of top-tier football in Albania and the eleventh season under the name ''Kategoria Superiore''. The season began on 24 August 2008 and ended on 23 May 2009. The defending champions were Dinamo Tirana. KF Tirana won their 24th national league title and qualified for the UEFA Champions League; Vllaznia, Dinamo Tirana and 2008–09 Albanian Cup winners Flamurtari gained access to the UEFA Europa League. On the bottom end of the table, Lushnja and Elbasani were directly relegated. Bylis and Partizani had to face teams from the Kategoria e Parë in relegation matches. Both teams lost and thus were demoted as well. Futboll Klub Tomori Berat is an Albanian football club based in the city of Berat. The club's home ground is the Tomori Stadium and they currently participate in the Kategoria e Dytë. History The sport of football was introduced to the city of Berat in the early 1910s by students who had completed their studies abroad. They brought back footballs and the rules of the game from their travels which they then passed onto the locals. As early as 1913, amateur neighbourhood teams were formed, such as Çunat e Lumit, Vakëfi, Kalaja and Opinga.
