2008–09 Adelaide United FC Season
The 2008–09 Adelaide United FC season was the club's fourth A-League season since the inception in the Australian football league since it first started in 2005. The club competed in the 2008–09 A-League, 2008 AFC Champions League and 2008 FIFA Club World Cup. For the 2008–09 season, Adelaide United made some significant signings to strengthen the squad, most notably striker Cristiano from Willem II for two years on a free transfer. Another key signing to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Richie Alagich was Alemão formerly of CA Juventus. Saša Ognenovski joined the club from Queensland Roar to help shore up the defence, midfielder Paul Reid joined from Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., while promising youngsters Scott Jamieson, Daniel Mullen, Mark Birighitti and Robert Younis also signed. Adelaide United FC
Adelaide United Football Club is a professional men's Association football, soccer club located in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The club was one of the eight founding members of the A-League Men and have competed in it concurrently since its formation, under North American professional sports league organization#Systems around the world, licence from the Australian Professional Leagues. Established in 2003, the club was formed to replace Adelaide City and West Adelaide SC, West Adelaide in the final season of the National Soccer League, and has remained the only professional club from South Australia. Saša Ognenovski
Sasa Ognenovski (; born 3 April 1979) is an Australian retired soccer player who played as a central defender, who played for the Australia national team on 22 occasions, and who last played for Sydney FC in the A-League. He is currently work as director of football at Preston Lions. In 2010, he was named Asian Footballer of the Year, won a position in the K-League Best XI, and won the AFC Champions League with Seongnam. These achievements led to his inclusion in the Australian squad for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Bruce Djite
Bruce José Djité (French pronunciation: ; born 25 March 1987) is an Australian executive and former association football (soccer) player. he is South Australian executive director of the Property Council of Australia. Djite made a name for himself playing in the AFC Champions League, reaching the 2008 AFC Champions League final, and was named Australia League Young Footballer of the Year for 2008. He was the Gold Coast United all-time second highest goal scorer and Adelaide United all-time highest goal-scorer. Robert Bajic
Robert Bajic (born 29 July 1977 in Whyalla, South Australia), is an Australian footballer. Club career Bajic began his career in 1994 with Adelaide Raiders in the SA Premier League. The following year he moved to Queensland to play with Rocklea United FC in the Brisbane league before being promoted in 1998 to the Brisbane Premier League with the Rochedale Rovers. Bajic spent five seasons with Rochdale, but returned to his home state in 2003, re-signing with the Raiders to again play in the SASL. The withdrawal of Adelaide City from the National Soccer League gave Bajic the chance to move into the top Australian league with new club Adelaide United FC for the 2003–04 NSL season. Dezmon "Dez" Wallace Giraldi (born 24 March 1986) is an Australian former soccer player. Club career Giraldi signed with A-League club Adelaide United for the 2006–07 season, after a four-week stint with the Central Coast Mariners during the 2005-06 A-League season. He has represented Australia at Under-17 and Under-23 level, while also being part of Empoli's squad in the Italian Serie A. Milan Susak (, born 29 January 1984) is an Australian retired footballer who last played for Yangon United as a defender. He is currently a trainer at the youth soccer team of western Sydney. Alfred Manuel "Bobby" Petta (born 6 August 1974) is a Dutch former professional association football, footballer who played as a left winger (association football), winger. Robert Younis
Robert Younis (born 14 August 1985) is an Australian footballer who played for Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC and APIA Leichhardt in the New South Wales Premier League, and Adelaide United in the A-League. He retired in 2017. Club career Younis signed for Adelaide Unitedin 2008 after two seasons for APIA Leichhardt in the NSW Premier League which saw him net 38 goals in just 43 appearances. Mark Birighitti
Mark Romano Birighitti (born 17 April 1991) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for A-League Men side Perth Glory. Born in Perth, Birighitti played youth football at the Australian Institute of Sport before making his professional debut for Adelaide United. In 2012, he moved to Newcastle Jets and spent time on loan to Italian club Varese in 2015. In 2016, Birighitti left Newcastle to again move to Europe, firstly with Swansea City and then NAC Breda. Scott Jamieson
Scott Alexander Jamieson (born 13 October 1988) is an Australian retired soccer player who played as a left back. Club career Blacktown City Jamieson was born in Auburn, Sydney. He has previously played for the Blacktown City in the New South Wales Premier League and has also attended Westfields Sports High School before signing for English Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.
