Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. Bethania de la Cruz de Peña (born May 13, 1987) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, currently playing for the Omaha Supernovas of the Pro Volleyball Federation. She is best known for winning the gold medal with the Dominican women's national team at the 2009 NORCECA Championship and the 2010 Pan-American Cup. Fabiana Marcelino Claudino (born 24 January 1985) is a Brazilian volleyball player who made her debut for the Brazilian national team against Croatia. She captained Brazil to the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. Personal life Claudino was born on 24 January 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Yanelis Santos Allegne (born 30 March 1986, in Ciego de Ávila) is a volleyball player from Cuba who played for the Cuban women's national team as a setter and opposite. Santos was named "Best Server" at the 2007 FIVB World Cup and the 2008 Summer Olympics. Career National team Santos started playing volleyball as a twelve year old in 1998, then joined the Cuban national team in 2001. Santos played with her national team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Fabiana "Fabi" Alvim de Oliveira (born 7 March 1980) is a Brazilian retired volleyball player who won the gold medal at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Career Fabiana started playing volleyball at the age of 13, specializing in defense - and later the libero position - due to her short height. De Oliveira was first called up to the Brazil women's national volleyball team in 2002, under coach Marco Aurélio Motta. She lost her place under his replacement, José Roberto Guimarães, and only returned to being a mainstay of the team in 2005. Brenda Castillo (born June 5, 1992, in San Cristóbal) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic and plays as a libero. She was a member of the Dominican Republic national team that won fifth place in the 2012 Summer Olympics, while she was named the tournament's Best Libero.
