2007–08 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup
The 2007–2008 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup events and season-long competition takes place between 21 October 2007 and 20 January 2008 and is sponsored by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Nine events are organised, a reduction of two from the 2006/07 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. In addition, not all events have races for each category, so that there are 8 rounds for elite men, 7 for elite women, and 5 for under-23 and junior men. Individual classifications for elite men and women were discontinued after the previous season, with more emphasis put on the UCI classifications. The UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup is a season-long competition in cyclo-cross, organised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and Flanders Classics. First held in the 1993–1994 season, there are currently six awards, tailored to the different categories of riders: Elite Men, Elite Women, Under 23 Men, Under 23 Women, Junior Men and Junior Women. The Grand Prix Adrie van der Poel is a cyclo-cross race held in Hoogerheide, Netherlands, which is part of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup and normally the final World Cup race. The race is named after former cyclo-cross world champion Adrie van der Poel Adri van der Poel (born 17 June 1959) is a retired Dutch cycle sport, cyclist. Van der Poel was a professional from 1981 to 2000. His biggest wins included six classics, two stages of the Tour de France and the World Cyclo-Cross Championships in .... The first edition was held at the end of the cyclocross season of 1999-2000, when Adrie van der Poel retired from professional cyclocross racing. Hanka Kupfernagel (born 19 March 1974 in Gera, Bezirk Gera) is a retired German professional cycle racer. During most of her career her primary focus was cyclo-cross racing, however, she has also won major road, track and mountain bike races. She has won seven consecutive medals at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, Women, UCI Women's Cyclo-cross World Championships, including three gold medals in 2000, 2001 and 2005; two silver medals in 2002 and 2003; and the bronze medal in 2004. Her major career victories also include a gold medal in the individual time trial competition at the 2007 UCI Road World Championships in Stuttgart and a silver medal in the road race at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She finished 1st in the year-end Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI world class rankings in 1997 and 1999 winning the 1999 La Flèche Wallonne Féminine in the process. Cyclo-cross Liévin
Cyclo-cross (cyclocross, CX, cyclo-X or cross) is a form of bicycle racing. Races typically take place in the autumn and winter (the international or "World Cup" season is October–February), and consist of many laps of a short (2.5–3.5 km or 1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. Races for senior categories are generally between 40 minutes and an hour long, with the distance varying depending on the ground conditions.
