2007–08 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The 2007–08 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League season, known as the Telikom NSL Cup for sponsorship purposes, was the second edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The title was won by Hekari United, PRK Hekari United, who picked up their second title. The Golden Boot was won by Hekari's Kema Jack, who scored 15 goals, while the Player of the Season award was shared by Ian Yanum of Welgris Highlanders and Ila Ilaita Jr of Gelle Hills United, Gelle Hills. Teams Seven teams entered the competition, an expansion from the previous season's five. Earlier in the year, there had been interest from further clubs, with the most notable being PS Rutz, who had competed for several years alongside Rapatona in the Port Moresby Premier League. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The Papua New Guinea Premier Soccer League is the men's top division of professional association football, soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. The competition has been won by only two clubs. Hekari United F.C., Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City F.C., Lae City have won the rest. Hekari United, formerly known as POM Souths, Souths United, PRK Souths United and Hekari Souths United, is a professional soccer club formed in 2006, based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The club holds the record for most titles in the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, having won nine titles, including eight consecutive titles from 2006 to 2014. They are also one of the two clubs from outside Australia and New Zealand to have won the OFC Champions League, and therefore to have represented Oceania at the FIFA Club World Cup, having achieved both in 2010.
