2007–08 Atlético Madrid Season
The 2007–08 season was the 102th season in Atlético Madrid's history and their 71rd season in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football. It covers a period from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008. In the wake of captain Fernando Torres departing for Liverpool, Atlético responded with the signings of Diego Forlán, Thiago Motta, Simão and José Antonio Reyes, aimed at propelling the club to the top. Atlético managed to take the final spot for the Champions League, finishing only three points behind Barcelona in third. Fabiano Eller dos Santos, known as Fabiano Eller (born 19 November 1977), is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a central defender. In the 2006 season, he played for Internacional while on loan from Turkish giants Trabzonspor. Pablo Ibáñez Tébar (born 3 August 1981), sometimes known as just Pablo, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a centre back. Pablo was born in Madrigueras. Ismael Gómez Falcón (born 24 April 1984) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Christian Abbiati (born 8 July 1977) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Abbiati, who had been with AC Milan since 1998, started his career with Monza, and later played more than 300 official matches for Milan.
