2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships
The 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships took place on March 24, 2007. The races were held at the Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa, Kenya. Four races took place, one for men, women, junior men and junior women respectively. All races encompassed both individual and team competition. The short race for men and women that was run between 1998 and 2006 was scrapped and the World Cross Country Championships went back to one-day format. Reports of the event were given in the Herald, and for the IAAF. Preparations When Athletics Kenya (AK, the national governing body of Athletics) applied for the event, it used the slogan "Cross Country Comes Home", referring to Kenyan and East African traditional dominance at the event. Nevertheless, no formidable Kenyan runners are known to come from Kenyan Coast Province. Mathew Kipkoech Kisorio
Mathew Kipkoech Kisorio (born 16 May 1989) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in road running and cross country running competitions. He has a half marathon best of 58:46 minutes (making him the third fastest ever) and a marathon best of 2:07:06 hours. On the roads, he has won the Philadelphia Half Marathon, Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon and Stramilano races. He has represented Kenya on the track and on grass. He was fourth at both the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and the 10,000 metres at the 2010 African Championships in Athletics. Kisorio has been banned twice for doping violations. His first competition ban was for two years from 2012 to 2014 after admitting use of steroids. He also claimed that medical staff in Kenya had promoted a system of doping to athletes. Vincent Kiprop Chepkok
Vincent Kiprop Chepkok (born 5 July 1988) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who specializes in the 5000 metres. Chepkok was born in Kapkitony in the Keiyo District of Kenya's Rift Valley Province. He won the silver medal in the junior race at the 2007 World Cross Country Championships, finished ninth at the 2009 World Championships and seventh at the 2009 World Athletics Final. He gained a major 5000 m win on the 2010 IAAF Diamond League circuit, winning at the British Grand Prix. He came second at the Cross Internacional Zornotza behind Joseph Ebuya at the start of 2011. Bernard Kiprop Kipyego (born 16 July 1986 in Keiyo District) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the marathon. His personal best for the event is 2:06:22 hours. He has reached the podium at the Amsterdam Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Boston Marathon, Paris Marathon and Tokyo Marathon. He was the bronze medallist at the 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and took the silver medal at the 2009 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. Moses Mosop
Moses Cheruiyot Mosop (born 7 July 1985) is a Kenyan middle and long distance athlete. He competed for Kenya at the 2004 Olympic Games and went on to take 10,000 metres bronze at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. He has also been successful in cross country running, having won the silver at the 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships as well as team gold with Kenya in 2007 and 2009. Until 30 September 2014, Mosop was managed by Jos Hermens and coached by Renato Canova. Zersenay Tadese Habtesilase ( Tigrinya: ዘርእሰናይ ታደሰ; born 8 February 1982) is an Eritrean former long-distance track and road running athlete. He held the men's half marathon world record from 2010 to 2018. Pauline Chemning Korikwiang (born 1 March 1988) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in track and cross country running competitions. She rose in the youth ranks in 2005, taking a 3000 metres silver medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics and took the world junior cross country title at the 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Kilindini Harbour
Kilindini Harbour is a large, natural deep-water inlet extending inland from Mombasa, Kenya. It is at its deepest center, although the controlling depth is the outer channel in the port approaches with a dredged depth of . It serves as the harbour for Mombasa, with a hinterland extending to Uganda. Mombasa Island is a coral outcrop located on Kenya's coast on the Indian Ocean, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway.
