2006 IAAF World Cup – Results
These are the results of the 2006 IAAF World Cup, which took place in Athens, Greece on 16 and 17 September. Five continental teams were present (Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania) and three full national teams competed (United States, Russia and host nation Greece). Furthermore – following victories at the 2006 European Cup on the men's and women's sides respectively – France fielded a men's team, while Poland fielded a women's team. __NOTOC__ Marc Burns (born 7 January 1983) is an athlete from Trinidad and Tobago specializing in the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay. Participating in the 2004 Summer Olympics, he was disqualified from his 100 metres heat due to a false start, thus failing to make it through to the second round. Marc Burns placed second in the men's 100 metres dash at the Bislett Games IAAF Golden League meet in Oslo in July 2005, in preparation for the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. At the 2005 World Championships he won (together with Kevon Pierre, Jacey Harper and Darrel Brown) a silver medal. Later that year he won the World Athletics Final. Guzel Khubbieva
Guzel Khubbieva (born 2 May 1976) is an Uzbekistani sprinter who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres. Khubbieva represented Uzbekistan at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing competing at the 100 metres sprint. In her first round heat she placed third behind Muna Lee and Anita Pistone in a time of 11.44 to advance to the second round. There she failed to qualify for the semi-finals as her time of 11.49 was only the seventh time of her heat, causing elimination. She won the silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games. Yeoryia Kokloni
Georgia (or Yeoryía) Koklóni () (born 7 May 1981 in Athens) is a Greek sprinter who specializes in 60 metres and 100 metres. Her first major competition was the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships, but she was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 60 m. She won the 60 m bronze at the 2002 European Athletics Indoor Championships, however, and went on to win a gold medal at the 2003 European Athletics U23 Championships, winning the 100 m in 11.33 seconds. Her first global outdoor championships was the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, where she was part of the Greek 4 x 100 metres relay team. Yuliya Aleksandrovna Gushchina (, born 4 March 1983 in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast) is a Russian sprinter who specializes in the 200 metres. On 30 November 2017 her results from the 2012 Summer Olympics were disqualified as a result of a positive doping test. Career Gushchina represented Russia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing competing at the 4 × 100 metres relay, together with Aleksandra Fedoriva, Yuliya Chermoshanskaya and Yevgeniya Polyakova. In their first round heat they placed second behind Jamaica, but in front of Germany and China. Kim Gevaert
Kim Gevaert (born 5 August 1978 in Leuven) is a former sprinter and Olympic champion from Belgium. Career Her closest brush with a world title came in running four hundredths of a second behind three-time champion Gail Devers at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics. At the next World Indoor Championships, in 2006, she won the bronze medal in a national record time of 7.11 seconds. On 9 August 2006 Gevaert won the 100 metres at the European Championships in 11.06 seconds. Two days later, she also won the final of the 200 metres, which was celebrated together with fellow Belgian athlete Tia Hellebaut, who had won gold in the high jump final only minutes before Kim Gevaert. Vida Anim (born 7 December 1983 in Accra, Greater Accra) is a Ghanaian sprinter who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres. Together with Mavis Akoto, Monica Twum and Vida Nsiah she holds the Ghanaian record in 4 x 100 metres relay with 43.19 seconds, achieved during the heats at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Vida Anim represented Ghana at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing competing at the 100 metres sprint. Sherone Simpson (born 12 August 1984) is a retired Jamaican track and field sprint athlete. She is a gold medalist in the 4 × 100 m relay from the 2004 Olympics and silver medalist in 2005 World Championships and now is the silver medalist in the individual event at the 2008 Summer Olympics, after she tied for second with Kerron Stewart in a photo finish. He competed in the 200 m and 400 m in the 2000 Olympics, but did not progress further from the heats in either event. Career He won a silver medal in 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2003 Summer Universiade.
