The 19th European Athletics Championships were held in Gothenburg, Sweden, between 7 August and 13 August 2006. The competition arena was the Ullevi Stadium and the official motto "Catch the Spirit". Wilbert Pennings
Wilbert Bernard Roger Pennings (born 23 February 1975 in Alphen aan den Rijn) is a Dutch high jumper. He is a thirteen-time Dutch champion and holds the national indoor and outdoor records. Pennings became Dutch high jump champion for the first time in 1995, jumping over 2.17 metres. In 1999 he improved the Dutch national outdoor record to 2.30 and finished tenth at the 1999 World Championships. In 2000 he represented the Netherlands in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he did not qualify for the final, jumping over 2.20. In February 2002 in Siegen, Germany, Wilbert Pennings improved the Dutch national indoor record to 2.31 and became seventh at the 2002 European Indoor Championships, one month later. Mickaël Hanany (born 25 March 1983, in Vitry-sur-Seine) is a French high jumper. His biggest success to date is winning the bronze medal at the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki. Rožle Prezelj (born 26 September 1979) is a Slovenian high jumper. Prezelj represented Slovenia at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. His best result came at the 2008 Olympics when he finished the competition in 12th place. His father Dušan, who competed in the decathlon, had a high jump personal best of 2.15 m (set in 1976) and his mother Stanka Lovše-Prezelj was a two-time Yugoslav high jump champion with a personal best of 1.86 m (set in 1981). Germaine Mason
Germaine Mason (20 January 1983 – 20 April 2017) was a Jamaican-born track and field athlete competing in high jump. In 2006, he switched sporting allegiance, and then represented Great Britain. As a Great Britain competitor, he won the silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Career Mason won silver and bronze medals at the World Junior Championships in 2000 and 2002 respectively, the latter event held in his hometown of Kingston. His first medal at senior level came at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, when he won a gold medal, having achieved a personal best jump of 2.34 metres. He finished fifth at the World Championships the same year. The following seasons saw him drop to 2.25 m (2004) and 2.27 m (2005), but 2.25 m was enough to win a bronze medal at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
