2005–06 New Zealand Knights FC Season
The 2005–06 New Zealand Knights FC season was the club's inaugural season in the Australian A-League. Picking up just one win and three draws out of the 21 regular season matches, the Knights finished at the bottom of the table, 20 points behind 7th placed Melbourne Victory. Season overview In their debut season, the Knights scored only 15 goals in their 21 fixtures. Their joint leading scorers were England, Englishman Simon Yeo and teenage whizkid Jeremy Brockie, with four apiece. Sean Devine scored three goals, while Joshua Rose, Jeremy Christie, Neil Emblen and Zhang Xiaobin (footballer, born 1985), Xiaobin Zhang all managed to find the back of the net once. Former Walsall F.C., Walsall right-back Darren Bazeley was the only Knight to start in all 21 of their games. New Zealand Knights Football Club (formed from the Football Kingz Football Club in 2004) were the only professional association football club in New Zealand before they became defunct. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, they played in the A-League, Australia's premier football competition and have since been replaced by Wellington Phoenix. Paul Richard Nevin (born 23 June 1969) is a football coach and former player. He is currently interim head coach of England U20s and assistant manager at Stoke City. Playing career Nevin began his playing career at Shrewsbury Town, before playing college soccer whilst studying at the University of Evansville in the United States. In 1991, Nevin returned to England, making eight Football League appearances for Carlisle United, as the club finished bottom of the Football League. Following his spell at Carlisle, Nevin joined Yeovil Town for two seasons, making 48 appearances in all competitions, before retiring from football at the age of 24, due to injury. Thomas Cyril Mason (July 8, 1939 – January 22, 2015) was an American professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Tulane Green Wave. College career Mason attended and played football at Tulane University. *1959: 10 Games – 81 carries for 336 yards. 5 catches for 54 yards and 2 TD. *1960: 10 Games – 120 carries for 663 yards. 28 catches for 376 yards and 5 TD. Professional career Mason was selected first overall by the expansion Minnesota Vikings in the 1961 NFL draft. In six seasons with the Vikings, he rushed for 3,252 yards and scored 28 touchdowns. Ronnie Rodney Bull (born 26 December 1980) is an English former professional footballer who played as a left full back and left-sided or central midfielder from 1999 to 2013.
