Motherwell (, ) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. Geographically the River Clyde separates Motherwell from Hamilton to the west whereas the South Calder Water separates Motherwell from Carfin to the north-east and New Stevenston and Bellshill towards the north. Motherwell is also geographically attached to Wishaw and the two towns form a large urban area in North Lanarkshire, with both towns having similar populations and strong community ties. History A Roman road through central Scotland ran along Motherwell's side of the River Clyde, crossing the South Calder Water near Bothwellhaugh. Abel Thermeus
Abel Thermeus (born 19 January 1983) is a Haitian football player who played as a striker. He played for Atromitos Yeroskipou. France-born Thermeus spent a couple of unsuccessful years at Monaco before moving to lower league side Créteil. In January 2006, he move to Scottish Premier League side Motherwell, where he quickly gained the nickname "The Flask". He is strong with a good touch and an eye for goal which will give us something extra," manager Terry Butcher told the club website.Thermeus played two league games for Motherwell as a substitute, the second of which, against Kilmarnock, he was sent-off for a headbutt. William Kinniburgh
William Daniel Kinniburgh (born 8 September 1984, in Glasgow) is a retired Association football, footballer who was the Manager (association football), manager with Gartcairn F. A. Juniors in the West of Scotland Football League. He has played in the Scottish Premier League for Motherwell F.C., Motherwell and the Scottish Football League for Ayr United F.C., Ayr United and Partick Thistle F.C., Partick Thistle. Career Kinniburgh was a product of the Motherwell F.C., Motherwell youth set-up and made his debut on 12 May 2002, against Dundee F.C., Dundee. On 15 November 2003, Kinniburgh signed for Ayr United F.C., Ayr United on loan. Kinniburgh joined Partick Thistle F.C., Partick Thistle on loan in late 2007 and on 18 January 2008 was signed by them for an undisclosed fee.
