The 2005 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (officially the Taça Nestlé Brasileirão 2005 for sponsorship reasons) was the 49th edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, a professional league for men's football clubs in Brazil. Corinthians claiming their fourth national title. The season officially kicked off on April 23, 2005 and concluded on December 4. Vasco da Gama's Romario was the top scorer with 22 goals. Gustavo Nery de Sá da Silva (born 22 July 1977) is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Career In February 2004, it was announced Nery would join Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on a four-year contract from São Paulo in the summer. The transfer fee to be paid to São Paulo was reported as €500,000 or €600,000. He missed the beginning of training in the summer due to being called up to the Brazil national team. He was later kept out of action by a hand injury. In his time at Werder Bremen he was often injured and unable to secure a first-team spot, making three league appearances, two of which were substitute appearances. The ''Bola de Ouro'' (Golden Ball) is an annual award given each year, since 1973, by Brazilian sports magazine '' Placar'' to the best player in the Campeonato Brasileiro. A group of sports journalists watch every match of the competition and rate players 1 to 10 based on their performance. At the end of the season, the players with the best average rating in each position are awarded the ''Bola de Prata'' (Silver Ball), and the player with the best overall average rating is the recipient of the Bola de Ouro. The awards were first given in 1973, but since the 1970 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A the magazine had started to evaluate players. The 2004 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A was the 48th edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. The competition was won by Santos, coached by Vanderlei Luxemburgo. Runners-up were Atlético Paranaense, which led the competition for 11 weeks and lost the title in the penultimate round. The other teams qualified for the Copa Libertadores were from the state of São Paulo, São Paulo and Palmeiras.
