2005 Football League One Play-off Final
The 2005 Football League One play-off final was an association football match which was played on 29 May 2005 at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, between Hartlepool United and Sheffield Wednesday. It determined the third and final team to gain promotion from Football League One to the Football League Championship. The top two teams of the 2004–05 Football League One season, Luton Town and Hull City, gained automatic promotion to the Championship, while the teams placed from third to sixth place in the table took part in play-off semi-finals. The winners of these semi-finals competed for the final place for the 2005–06 season in the Championship. The losing semi-finalists were Tranmere Rovers and Brentford. The referee for the match, which kicked off in front of 59,808 spectators, was Phil Crossley. Christopher Colin Brunt (born 14 December 1984) is a Northern Irish former professional association football, footballer who played as a midfielder and is the current West Bromwich Albion F.C., West Bromwich Albion loan player manager. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in the club's history. Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu (born 26 December 1982) is a Congolese professional footballer, formerly an under-21 international. Paul Heckingbottom (born 17 July 1977) is an English football coach and former player who is the manager of EFL Championship club Preston North End. After retiring as a player, Heckingbottom trained as a coach. He obtained a position with Barnsley's development squad and, after a successful spell as caretaker manager in which the club won promotion and the EFL Trophy, he was appointed manager in 2016. In February 2018 he moved to Leeds United, but he was sacked during the 2018 close season after 16 games in charge. Lee Anthony Peacock (born 9 October 1976) is a Scottish former professional footballer and current Assistant Manager at Plymouth Parkway F.C. As a player, he was a forward and midfielder from 1995 to 2015.
