2004–05 FC Porto Season
FC Porto followed up its UEFA Champions League victory with a chaotic season, following the departure of coach José Mourinho and several key players. Initial coach Luigi Delneri was sacked even before the season started, due to too little presence in his new town in pre-season. New signings Ricardo Quaresma, Pepe (footballer, born 1983), Pepe, Giourkas Seitaridis, LuÃs Fabiano, Raul Meireles and Diego (footballer, born 1985), Diego looked spectacular on paper, but in reality, Porto had a miserable offensive performance, culminating in just 39 league goals and a loss of the league title to arch rivals S.L. Benfica, Benfica. As a consolation, it won the Intercontinental Cup (1960–2004), Intercontinental Cup title with a victory against Once Caldas on penalties. Giourkas Seitaridis
Georgios "Giourkas" Seitaridis ( ; born 4 June 1981) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a right-back and occasionally as a centre-back. He has last played in 2013 for Greek Superleague side Panathinaikos, having played previously at PAS Giannina, Porto, Dynamo Moscow and Atlético Madrid. He is a former member of the Greece national team, for which he made a total of 72 international appearances, scoring one goal. Paulo César Silva Peixoto (born 12 May 1980) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played mainly as a left midfielder but occasionally as a left-back, currently manager of Primeira Liga club Gil Vicente. Nuno Jorge Pereira da Silva Valente (; born 12 September 1974) is a former Portuguese professional footballer who played as a left-back or a winger. He later became a manager. The Intercontinental Cup, officially the European/South American Cup and known from 1980 as the Toyota Cup for sponsorship reasons, was an international association football, football competition endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America), contested between representative clubs from these confederations, usually the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the South American Copa Libertadores.
