During the 2004–05 English football season, Crystal Palace competed in the FA Premier League, following promotion from the First Division (renamed the Championship) the previous season. Season summary Despite the 21 league goals of striker Andy Johnson, and being just ahead of the relegation zone for most of the season, Palace were unable to remain in the top flight and were relegated on the last day of the season, following a 2–2 draw with fellow south-east London rivals Charlton Athletic at The Valley, combined with West Bromwich Albion's 2–0 win over Portsmouth. Tony Popovic (born 4 July 1973) is an Australian association football manager and former player. He is currently head coach of the Australia men's national soccer team, Australia national football team. Mark Alexander Hudson (born 30 March 1982) is an English football manager and former professional footballer who is currently first team coach at Ipswich Town. A centre-back, he began his professional career with Fulham after progressing through the club's youth academy. Daniel Patrick Granville (born 19 January 1975) is an English football coach and former footballer, who is an academy coach for Premier League side Arsenal. As a player he was a left back who played in the Premier League for Chelsea, Leeds United, Manchester City and Crystal Palace. Daniel Paul Butterfield (born 21 November 1979) is an English former professional footballer and coach who is currently assistant manager at National League club Eastleigh. Julián Maria Speroni (; born 18 May 1979) is an Argentine former professional association football, footballer who played as a goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper.
