The 2004 Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré was the 56th edition of the cycle race and was held from 6 June to 13 June 2004. The race started in Megève and finished in Grenoble. The race was won by Iban Mayo of the team. Iban Mayo
Iban Mayo Diez (born 19 August 1977 in Igorre, Basque Country, Spain) is a former professional road bicycle racer. Biography Renowned as a climber, Mayo turned pro with in 2000, and became one of the Basque Country's prospects for glory. He stayed with Euskaltel-Euskadi throughout 2000–2006. The biggest result came in the 2003 Tour de France, when he won a stage up Alpe d'Huez. Mayo finished the Tour sixth. In 2004 Mayo won the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, regarded as preparation for the Tour de France. He beat Lance Armstrong by two minutes in a time trial on Mont Ventoux, breaking the record. He was seen as a dangerous outsider for the Tour de France in the same year. It turned out a disappointment, and after losing time due to a crash, he lost more in the Pyrenees due to injuries and mononucleosis. Mayo quit before the 15th stage. Nicolas Portal
Nicolas Portal (23 April 1979 – 3 March 2020) was a French directeur sportif and professional road bicycle racer. He was born in Auch, France. He missed much of the 2009 season because of problems with cardiac arrhythmia and retired as a professional cyclist following the 2010 season. He stayed with his final professional team, Team Sky, as a manager from the 2011 season. Following the retirement of Sean Yates, Portal was appointed lead ''directeur sportif'' of Team Sky for 2013. He died of a heart attack on 3 March 2020, aged 40. Professional career Portal was born on 23 April 1979 in Auch, France. His father was a quarry manager and his mother worked as a medical secretary. Iñigo Landaluze
Iñigo Landaluze Intxaurraga (born May 9, 1977 in Getxo, Basque Country) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2001 and 2009, entirely for the team. During the 2009 season, Landaluze tested positive for the use of Continuous erythropoietin receptor activator (CERA) at the 2009 Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. He received a two-year ban for this, and was disqualified from his results at the race. Doping In 2005 Landaluze made his breakthrough by winning the 2005 Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. However his win was clouded in controversy as it was soon announced he had tested positive for abnormally high testosterone and was suspended from racing until his case was heard out. In 2006, however, he was cleared to return to racing after he showed that the lab conducting tests committed procedural errors. Óscar Pereiro SÃo (; born 3 August 1977) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer. Pereiro was declared the winner of the 2006 Tour de France, after the original winner Floyd Landis was disqualified for failing a Doping (sport), doping test after his stage 17 victory. Pereiro is a former member of Porta da Ravessa (2000 to 2001), Phonak (cycling team), Phonak Hearing Systems (2002 to 2005), (2006 to 2009), and the cycling team (2010). After retiring from cycling in 2010, Pereiro joined his local part-time football club Coruxo FC of the Segunda División B.
