Gastón Gaudio was the defending singles champion of the Torneo Godó men's tennis tournament, but lost in the quarterfinals this year. Carlos Moyá won the singles title at the 2003 Torneo Godó tennis tournament, defeating Marat Safin, who retired while Moyá held a 5–7, 6–2, 6–2, 3–0 lead in the final. Carlos Moyá
Carlos Moyá Llompart (; born 27 August 1976) is a Spanish former professional tennis player and coach. He was ranked as the world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Moyá won 20 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including the 1998 French Open, and was part of the victorious Spanish Davis Cup team in 2004. He was also the runner-up at the 1997 Australian Open. After his playing career, Moyá served as Rafael Nadal's primary coach from 2016 to 2024. Tennis career In November 1995, at the age of 19, Moyá won his first tournament at the top-level in Buenos Aires, defeating Félix Mantilla in the final. Maksim Mikalaevich "Max" Mirnyi (born 6 July 1977) is a Belarusian former professional tennis player. Mirnyi became a doubles specialist following his singles career, in which he reached a career-high of World No. 18 (August 2003) and finished in the top 50 in the world for seven straight years despite only winning one ATP singles title (2003 Rotterdam Open). Salvador Navarro
Salvador Navarro Gutiérrez (born 8 January 1977) is a former professional tennis player from Spain. Career Navarro qualified for his only Grand Slam in 1997, at the French Open. He won his opening round match against countryman Marcos Aurelio Gorriz, in five sets, but would lose to Jan Siemerink in the second round. He never made a quarter-final during his singles career on the ATP Tour but did have a win over world number 27 Sébastien Grosjean at the 2000 Torneo Godó, held in his hometown of Barcelona. Karol Beck (born 3 April 1982) is a male former tennis player from Slovakia, who turned professional in 2001. His career-high singles ranking is World No. 36, achieved in August 2005. Beck reached the fourth round of the 2004 US Open and the quarterfinals of the 2005 Montreal Masters, defeating Nikolay Davydenko en route to both runs. Mariano Rubén Puerta (; born 19 September 1978) is an Argentine tennis coach and former professional player. He reached a career-high ATP world No. 9 singles ranking in August 2005. David Ferrer Ern (; ; born 2 April 1982) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. He was ranked world No. 3 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in July 2013. Albert Portas Soy (, ; born 15 November 1973) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. He reached his career-high singles ranking of World No. 19 in October 2001. Career Portas turned professional in 1994. His first and only top-level singles title came at the 2001 Hamburg Masters tournament, where as a qualifier he defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final. His mastery of the drop shot (key to his victory in the final) earned him the nickname "Drop Shot Dragon". Nicolás Alexander Lapentti Gómez (; born 13 August 1976) is an Ecuadorian former professional tennis player. Lapentti was ranked world No. 6 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in April 2000. Galo Blanco (; born 8 October 1976) is a retired professional tennis player from Oviedo, Spain. After many years as a professional tennis coach Blanco joined the Davis Cup steering committee in 2018. Tennis career Blanco came closest to winning a Grand Slam title in 1997, reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open by defeating Neville Godwin, Magnus Gustafsson, Chris Woodruff and Petr Korda before losing to Pat Rafter. Marc López Tarrés (, ; born 31 July 1982) is a Spanish tennis coach and a former professional player. His career-high ATP singles ranking was world No. 3 in doubles, achieved in January 2013 and No. 106, achieved in May 2004. Filippo Volandri (; born 5 September 1981) is an Italian tennis coach and former professional player. Volandri reached a career-high singles ranking of world no. 25 in July 2007. He turned professional in 1997 and earned almost $4 million in prize money.
