The 2003 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held September 10–14, 2003 in Gainesville, Georgia, United States at Lake Lanier. Located north of Atlanta, this was also where the canoe sprint and rowing events for the 1996 Summer Olympics took place. Martin Doktor (; born 21 May 1974 in Polička, Czechoslovakia) is the Czech Republic's best-known sprint canoeist. He was double Olympic champion in the Canadian canoe C-1 discipline at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. During the 1996 games, his mother cooked ''knedliky'' ( Dumplings in Czech), using dozens of kg of flour brought over from the Czech Republic. Ledis Balceiro
Ledis Frank Balceiro Pajon (born April 18, 1975) is a Cuban sprint canoeist who competed from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s. In 1995 Balceiro became the first-ever Cuban canoeist to win a major international title, taking the Pan-American Games C-1 1000 m gold medal in Mar del Plata, Argentina. At the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Balceiro duelled with Canadian Steve Giles, the reigning world C-1 1000 m champion. Giles won the C-1 1000 m final ahead of Balceiro with the positions reversed in the C-1 500 m event. Ibrahim Rojas Blanco (born October 10, 1975) is a Cuban sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s. Silviu Simioncencu (born December 13, 1975) is a Romanian sprint canoer and three-time world champion in the Canadian canoe events. Career Born December 13, 1975, in Crişan, Tulcea, he won his first major title at the European championships in 2002, winning the C2 1000m final with Florin Popescu. In 2003, they became world champions at Gainesville, USA. Petr Fuksa (born 28 September 1969 in Nymburk) is a Czech sprint and marathon canoeist who competed from 1996 to 2006. He won eleven medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with two golds (C-4 200 m: 1998, 2006), seven silvers (C-2 200 m: 2002, 2003; C-4 200 m: 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005), and two bronze (C-2 200 m: 1997); C-4 200 m: 1997. Daniel Jędraszko
Daniel Jędraszko (born April 6, 1976, in Szczecin) is a Polish sprint canoeist who has competed since the late 1990s. He has been world champion four times in the canoe double (C2) event with partner Paweł Baraszkiewicz. They also won a C-2 500 m silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The same year Jędraszko won his only European title to date (again in the C-2 500 m). However at the 2004 Athens games they underperformed and came away without a medal. Injuries prevented him from competing in 2005 but in 2006 he formed a new C-2 partnership with Roman Rynkiewicz. They finished fifth at the world championships in Szeged, Hungary.
