2002–03 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 2002–03 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 22nd official FIS Cross-Country World Cup, World Cup season in cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began in Düsseldorf, Germany, on 26 October on 2002 and was concluded in Falun, Sweden, on 23 March 2003. Mathias Fredriksson of Sweden won the overall men's cup, and Bente Skari of Norway won the women's. Kiruna
(; ; ; ) is the northernmost Stad (Sweden), city in Sweden, situated in the province of Lapland, Sweden, Lapland. It had 17,002 inhabitants in 2016 and is the seat of Kiruna Municipality (population: 23,167 in 2016) in Norrbotten County. The city was originally built in the 1890s to serve the Kiruna Mine. Frode Estil
Frode Estil (born 31 May 1972) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier. He lives in Meråker Municipality with his wife Grete whom he married in the summer of 2001. They have two sons, Bernhard, born in August 2002, and Konrad. Estil was classical specialist and also a specialist at succeeding in World Championships and Olympics. While Estil only won four World Cup races, he won one individual Olympic Gold and one individual World Championship gold. René Sommerfeldt (born 2 October 1974 in Zittau) is a German cross-country skier who competed from 1994 to 2010. He won two medals in the 4 × 10 km relays at the Winter Olympics with a silver in 2006 and a bronze in 2002. Sommerfeldt's best individual Olympic finish was 12th in the 15 km event in 2006. Sommerfeldt also has three medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, earning two silvers (50 km: 2001, 4 × 10 km relay: 2003) and one bronze (4 × 10 km relay: 2001). Axel Teichmann
Axel Teichmann (born 14 July 1979) is a German cross-country skiing coach and former skier. Background Teichmann started cross-country skiing at the age of ten. He completed his secondary education at Bad Lobenstein and, from 1993, at Oberhof. Since graduation in 1998, he has been aided in his sporting career by the German armed forces as a military athlete. In addition to professional sport, Teichmann studies electrical engineering at FernUniversität Hagen. Career Teichmann competed at the 2002, the 2010, and the 2014 Winter Olympics. He was sick for a large part of the 2005–06 season and failed to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Lukáš Bauer
Lukáš Bauer (; born 18 August 1977) is a Czech cross-country skier who has competed since 1996. Biography On 17 February 2006 he won the Winter Olympics silver medal for the 15 km cross-country classical. His best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was second in the 15 km classic in 2009. Bauer is son-in-law of another Czech skier Helena Balatková-Šikolová. In season 2007–08 he was overall winner of the men's version of the Tour de Ski and FIS Cross-Country World Cup. In 2010, he again won the Tour de Ski in a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Norwegian skier Petter Northug. Vasily Vasilyevich Rochev (; born 23 October 1980 in Syktyvkar, Komi ASSR, Russian SFSR) is a Russian cross-country skier who has competed since 2000. He won the bronze medal in the Team sprint event at the 2006 Winter Olympics at Turin. Rochev has four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with a gold (Individual sprint: 2005), two silvers (Team sprint and 4x10 km: both 2007), and one bronze (4x10 km: 2005). He has won fourteen events in cross-country skiing since 2002. Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi () is a high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there are over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes (of which 100 km are safari organizers' private routes). Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The total of trails in Ruka and Kuusamo area is: 160 km of hiking trails, 605 km of biking routes, 350 km of classified paddling routes (including class 1–4 whitewater paddling) and 100 km of boating routes. In winter 1954, the first slope, now called "Eturinne" ("Front Slope"), was opened. The current number of slopes is 41, operated with 21 ski lifts (three high-speed detachable chair with bubble and one gondola).
