2001–02 Luton Town F.C. Season
The 2001–02 season was the 116th season in the history of Luton Town Football Club. The club's 22nd-place finish in Division Two in 2000–01 meant they competed in Division Three for the first time in 33 years. After a summer of upheaval from manager Joe Kinnear, the club comfortably secured automatic promotion by finishing in second place in the league, 18 points ahead of their nearest rivals. Cup competitions proved to be far less of a success, with Luton exiting the FA Cup, League Cup, and Football League Trophy at the first hurdle. The 2001–02 season is also notable for Kinnear creating the nucleus of the successful Luton team of future years: centre-back Chris Coyne, midfielders Kevin Nicholls and Ahmet Brković, and striker Steve Howard would all go on to prove themselves as fully adept at playing at a higher level for the club. Luton Town F
Luton () is a town and borough in Bedfordshire, England. The borough had a population of 225,262 at the 2021 census. Luton is on the River Lea, about north-west of London. The town's foundation dates to the sixth century as a Saxon settlement on the river, from which Luton derives its name. Luton is recorded in the Domesday Book as ''Loitone'' and ''Lintone''. One of the largest churches in Bedfordshire, St Mary's Church, was built in the 12th century. There are local museums which explore Luton's history in Wardown Park and Stockwood Park. Ricky Hill
Ricky Hill (born 5 March 1959) is an English Association football, football coach and a former player who is the manager of the Turks and Caicos Islands national football team, Turks and Caicos Islands national team. He spent most of his playing career at Luton Town F.C., Luton Town for 14 years, while representing England at Senior, U21 and U18 International levels. Hill was the fourth Black player to play for England's Senior National team and the first British South Asian to represent England at the Senior level. Hill began his managerial career as a Player/Coach with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1992 and in that season saw the Rowdies appear in both the League Championship final and the Professional Cup final, in addition to Hill also being awarded 'Coach of the Year' amongst other notable player accolades such as Best Passer and All-Star First Team. Leyton ( ) is a town in East London, England, within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It borders Walthamstow to the north, Leytonstone to the east, and Stratford, London, Stratford to the south, with Clapton, London, Clapton, Hackney Wick and Homerton, across the River Lea, to the west. Carl Brian Griffiths (born 16 July 1971) is an English-born Welsh former footballer and manager. He started his career with Shrewsbury Town in 1988, and after being voted onto the PFA Team of the Year, moved on to Manchester City for £500,000 in October 1993. In August 1995 he transferred to Portsmouth for £200,000, moving on to Peterborough United for £225,000 in March 1996. He joined Leyton Orient for £65,000 in March 1997, where he stayed for four years, interrupted by short spells at Wrexham (on loan) and Port Vale. He played for Luton Town between July 2001 and 2003 following a £65,000 transfer, later dropping into non-League football with Harlow Town, Braintree Town, Brentwood Town, and Maldon Town. Carl Wayne Emberson (born 13 July 1973 in Epsom, Surrey) is an English retired football goalkeeper. Career He played in the 1990–91 Final of the FA Youth Cup with Millwall, but only ever managed to make 1 Senior first-team appearance under Mick McCarthy for the club, getting sent off against Crystal Palace. He joined Colchester United for £25,000 in 1994, where he had previously been on loan. Aaron Skelton (born 22 November 1974 in Welwyn Garden City) is a former professional footballer who played at right-back, right-wing, center-midfield and center-back during his time at Luton Town and Colchester. His More recent achievement, on 15 July 2022, Aaron joined a team of 4 military veterans on the rowing boat Ellida to cross the English Channel from Cherbourg to Poole. This 66 nautical mile trip ended on 16 July after 38.5 hours at sea, with strong winds and tides resulting in a 109-mile row and a Successful crossing. Mick Harford
Michael Gordon Harford (born 12 February 1959) is an English football manager and former professional player. He is the chief recruitment officer at Luton Town, a club where he has spent a large portion of both his playing and non-playing career. In addition to two separate spells as a player at Luton, including as part of the team that won the League Cup in 1988, Harford has been the club's director of football, first-team coach and manager; the latter role saw him lead Luton to victory in the Football League Trophy in 2009 and win League One in a separate spell in 2018–19. Harford began his career in 1977 with Lincoln City, later moving to Newcastle United and Bristol City.
