2000–01 San Antonio Spurs Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the 25th season for the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association, their 28th season in San Antonio, Texas, and their 34th season as a franchise. During the off-season, the Spurs signed free agents Derek Anderson, and Danny Ferry. All-Star forward Tim Duncan had nearly signed a free-agent deal with the Orlando Magic, who had offered him a six-year contract worth $67.5 million; however, Duncan decided to stay with the Spurs. The Spurs got off to a 13–9 start to the regular season, then won ten of their next twelve games, and held a 31–16 record at the All-Star break. Gregg Popovich
Gregg Charles Popovich (born January 28, 1949) is an American professional basketball executive and former coach who is the president for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Midwest Division (NBA)
The Midwest Division was a division in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division was created at the start of the 1970–71 season, when the league expanded from 14 to 17 teams with the addition of the Buffalo Braves, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Portland Trail Blazers. The league realigned itself into two conferences, the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference, with two divisions in each conference. The Midwest Division began with four inaugural members, the Chicago Bulls, the Detroit Pistons, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns. The Bulls and the Suns joined from the Western Division, while the Pistons and the Bucks joined from the Eastern Division. Allen Iverson
Allen Ezail Iverson ( ; born June 7, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. The NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1955–56 season to the best performing player of the regular season. The 2001 NBA All-Star Game was an exhibition basketball game which was played on February 11, 2001, at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C., home of the Washington Wizards. This game was the 50th edition of the North American National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game and was played during the 2000–01 NBA season. Allen Iverson was named the game's Most Valuable Player after he rallied the East to garner an improbable 111–110 comeback victory over the West. The East trailed 95–74 with nine minutes left after the West dominated the first 39 minutes behind its superior size. Avery Johnson
Avery DeWitt Johnson (born March 25, 1965) is an American basketball television commentator, former player and coach who previously served as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team. Terry Porter
Terry Porter (born April 8, 1963) is an American former college basketball coach and former player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the Portland Pilots, University of Portland. A native of Wisconsin, he played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point before being drafted 24th by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1985 NBA draft.
