2000–01 Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The 2000–01 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 99th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league was officially named ''Borsodi Liga'' for sponsoring reasons since April 2001. The season started on 22 July 2000 and ended on 23 June 2001. Overview It was contested by 12 teams, and Ferencvárosi TC won the championship in a reduced 1st division. Guided by former Headcoach of the Hungarian national team, János Csank, Ferencváros lost only two games during the season, and finished two points above defending champions Dunaferr. Dunaferr started off their title-defense struggling, suffering a 4-1 loss against MTK on opening day, and losing to Ferencváros, DVSC and Kispest within a 4-week period. Prior to the last day of the season, FTC and Dunaferr were separated by just two points. Both teams would win their redpective games, with Ferencváros winning 2-0 at Debrecen, and Dunaferr trashing Lombard-Pápa 2-5. The title went to Ferencváros, despite winning on ... Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The Nemzeti Bajnokság (, ), also known as NB I or Fizz Liga after its title sponsor, OTP Bank's webshop subsidiary, is a professional association football league in Hungary and the highest level of the Hungarian football league system. Twelve teams compete in the league, playing each other three times, once at home, once away, and the third match is played at the stadium that the last match was not played at. At the end of the season, the top team enters the qualification rounds for the UEFA Champions League, while the runner-up and the third place, together with the winner of the Magyar Kupa enter the UEFA Conference League qualification rounds. The bottom two clubs are relegated to Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second-level league, to be replaced by the winner and the runner up of the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, NB II. Zalaegerszegi Torna Egylet Football Club (), commonly known as Zalaegerszegi TE, Zalaegerszeg or ZTE, is a Hungary, Hungarian professional association football, football club based in Zalaegerszeg. Zalaegerszeg has won one Hungarian League title in 2001–02 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, 2002 and one Magyar Kupa title in 2023. History ZTE traces its roots back to 1912, at the time of the Austria-Hungary, Austro-Hungarian Empire. Its first match was a 4–2 defeat to a team from Vasvár. The team was first composed of members of a literary and debating society. ZTE flourished under coach József Vadász, but World War I halted its progress. In 1920, Zalaegerszegi TE, or "Gymanistics Club of Zalaegerszeg," was born. Vasas SC () is a Hungarian sports club based in Budapest. Members of the ''Hungarian Union of Iron Workers'' founded the club as ''Vas- és Fémmunkások Sport Clubja'', the "Sport Club of Iron and Metal Workers", on 16 March 1911. Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club or shortly MTK is a professional football club based in Józsefváros, Budapest, Hungary. The club currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. The club's colours are blue and white. As one of the most successful Hungarian football clubs, MTK has won the Hungarian League 23 times and the Hungarian Cup 12 times. The club has also won the Hungarian Super Cup twice. In 1955, as ''Vörös Lobogó SE'', they became the first Hungarian team to play in the European Cup and in 1964 they finished as runners-up in the European Cup Winners' Cup after losing to Sporting Clube de Portugal in the final.
