2000–01 ABA Season
The 2000–01 ABA season was the first season of the new American Basketball Association. The season lasted from November 2000 to the championship game in March 2001 featuring the top seeded Chicago Skyliners and the fourth-seeded Detroit Dogs. Detroit defeated Chicago, 107–91 in the 2001 ABA championship game. Salaries Each roster had a limit of 10 players and salary cap of $900,000, Most of ABA 2000 players were paid higher than a CBA or International Basketball League player. The average salary was around $60,000 (NBA minimum in 2000-01 was of $316,969 and the salary cap was $35.5 million). American Basketball Association (2000–present)
The American Basketball Association (ABA) is an American semi-professional men's basketball minor league that was founded in 1999. ABA teams are based in the United States, with one traveling team from Japan. The league previously had international teams based in Canada, China and Mexico. League management infamously maintains low requirements for franchise ownership, and hundreds of ABA teams have either folded or defected to rival leagues. The league licenses its name and use of ABA trademarks from the National Basketball Association, which absorbed the American Basketball Association (1967–1976) during the ABA–NBA merger featuring legendary players like Moses Malone, George Gervin, Artis Gilmore, and Julius Erving. Saddi Washington
Saddi Washington (born July 30, 1975) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He currently serves as a men's basketball assistant coach for the Michigan State basketball team. He played college basketball at Western Michigan. Before becoming a collegiate assistant coach, he was a volunteer coach at Romulus Senior High School under current Alabama head coach Nate Oats. Playing career Washington attended Sexton High School, where he was a four-year letter winner in basketball and track, receiving all-state recognition in both sports in 1993. Following his high school career, he went on to start at Western Michigan. In 1994, he made the Mid-American Conference (MAC) All-Freshman team after scoring 14 points per game. Ndongo N'Diaye
The Kingdom of Ndongo (formerly known as Angola or Dongo, also Kimbundu: ) was an early-modern African state located in the highlands between the Lukala and Kwanza Rivers, in what is now Angola. The Kingdom of Ndongo is first recorded in the sixteenth century. It was one of multiple vassal states to Kongo, though Ndongo was the most powerful of these with a king called the '' Ngola''. Little is known of the kingdom in the early sixteenth century. "Angola" was listed among the titles of the King of Kongo in 1535, so it was likely somewhat subordinate to Kongo. Its oral traditions, collected in the late sixteenth century, particularly by the Jesuit Baltasar Barreira, described the founder of the kingdom, Ngola Kiluanje, also known as Ngola Inene, as a migrant from Kongo, chief of a Kimbundu-speaking ethnic group. The Criollos de Caguas are a professional basketball team based in Caguas, Puerto Rico. They play in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) League, the top division basketball league in Puerto Rico. They are the league's defending champions, having defeated the Osos de Manatí in 7 games in the final of the 2024 Baloncesto Superior Nacional season. Benoit Benjamin
Lenard Benoit Benjamin e-NOYT(; born November 22, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1st round (3rd overall) of the 1985 NBA draft. A 7'0" center from Creighton University, Benjamin played for nine NBA teams in 15 seasons from 1985 to 1999. Anthony Pelle
Anthony Pelle (born December 1, 1972) is an American professional basketball player who was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round (44th overall pick) of the 1995 NBA draft. Pelle, who was born in the Bronx, New York and played collegiately at Villanova University and Fresno State University, did not appear in any NBA games but plied his trade several leagues in Europe, most notably in Greece, Spain and Italy as well as in second-tier leagues in the United States. College career After coming out of Stevenson High, in the Bronx Pelle committed to Villanova to play under coach Steve Lappas. He stayed in Villanova for three seasons, appeared in 81 games and averaged 3.1 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game and 1.2 blocks per game. Ural Great Perm
PBC Ural Great Perm was a Russian professional basketball club located in Perm. The club's home arena was Molot Sports Hall. The team played in the Russian Super League. History The club was established in the year 1995 on the basis of the local Technical University team. Ural Great won the Russian League championship on two occasions, in the years 2001 and 2002 (the only time between 1992 and 2022, when CSKA Mosckow hadn't won russian championship) and the Russian Cup in the year 2004. They also won the NEBL championship in the year 2001. Ural also won the EuroCup Challenge championship in the year 2006. Derrick Gervin (born March 28, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player born in Detroit. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was the 1995 Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP, and a two-time top scorer in the Israel Basketball League, in 1996 and 1998.
