The Women's singles competition of the 2000 Direct Line International Championships was part of the 26th edition of the Eastbourne International tennis tournament, Tier II of the 2000 WTA Tour. Natasha Zvereva was the defending champion but lost in the second round to Anna Kournikova. Julie Halard-Decugis won in the final 7–6(7–4), 6–4 against Dominique Van Roost. Julie Halard-Decugis
Julie Halard-Decugis (born 10 September 1970) is a French former professional tennis player. Tennis career Halard-Decugis lived in La Baule, France, during the initial stages of her career and later moved to Pully, Switzerland. She turned professional in 1986. She won the French Open junior singles title in 1988 and was the Wimbledon junior singles runner-up in 1987. She retired from the WTA Tour tennis circuit at the end of the 2000 season. Her highest WTA Tour singles and doubles rankings was number seven and number one respectively. She had been coached by Arnaud Decugis since 1989. Halard-Decugis won her first WTA Tour singles title in Puerto Rico. Jana Kandarr
Jana Kandarr (born 21 September 1976) is a German former top 50 professional tennis player. Kandarr is notable for playing with her right hand, even though she is left-handed. Career Kandarr moved with her parents from Halle to Karlsruhe after the German reunification. Her mother Petra Vogt is a former European athletics champion and was Sports Person of the Year in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) in 1969. Silvija Talaja (born 14 January 1978) is a Croatian former professional tennis player. Talaja won two singles titles and one doubles title on the WTA Tour, as well as one singles title on the ITF Circuit. On 29 May 2000, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 18. Anne Kremer (born 17 October 1975) is a Luxembourgish retired tennis player. She won two singles titles on the WTA Tour. On 29 July 2002, she achieved her best WTA ranking of world No. 18. Louise Latimer (born 19 January 1978) is a former professional tennis player from Great Britain. Biography Latimer was born and raised in Norwich for the first 12 years of her life, before her family moved to Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham. Her father Colin worked at Birmingham University and her mother Jo was a nurse. A right-handed player, Latimer turned professional in 1995 and won her first ITF title in Portugal in 1997. Anna Aleksandrovna Smashnova (, ; born July 16, 1976) is a Soviet-born Israeli former tennis player. She retired from professional tour after Wimbledon 2007. Smashnova reached her career-high singles ranking of world No. 15 in 2003. She reached 13 finals, and won 12 of them.
