The Denmark Open, or formerly known as Danish Open, is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Badminton Denmark. The Denmark Open was part of the BWF Super Series Premier from 2011 to 2017. BWF categorised it as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events per the BWF events structure since 2018. History The tournament started in 1936 and it is now the world's second oldest badminton tournament. It was interrupted by World War II and was on hiatus from 1956 through 1964. It seeks to draw the top players from around the World. The tournament is usually played in late October each year. Locations Eleven locations have been chosen to host the tournament. The 2007 and 2008 tournaments were held in Arena Fyn in Odense. Jesper Alsing Larsen (born 29 October 1972) is a badminton player from Denmark who affiliated with Hvidovre BK. Mette Schjoldager
Mette Schjoldager (born 21 April 1977) is a Danish badminton player from Viby, Roskilde Municipality, on the island of Zealand. Career Schjoldager made her debut at the Olympic Games in 2000 Sydney. Teamed-up with Ann-Lou Jørgensen, they beat Elena Nozdran/ Viktoriya Evtushenko of Ukraine in the first round, but was defeated in the second round by Indonesian pair Etty Tantri/ Cynthia Tuwankotta. In the mixed doubles, she partnered with Jens Eriksen. The duo had a bye in the first round, beat Michael Keck/ Nicol Pitro of German, and were defeated bye Tri Kusharjanto/Minarti Timur of Indonesia in the quarterfinals. Rikke Olsen
Rikke Olsen Siegemund (born 19 April 1975) is a retired badminton player from Denmark. She won the mixed doubles title at the World Junior Championships in 1992 and the girls' doubles title at the European Junior Championships in 1993. Born in Søndre Roskilde, Olsen came from the badminton family, and started playing at the age of six. She trained in Kastrup-Magleby BK and played for the team for eight seasons, won fourteen National titles, seven World Championships bronze medals, three times runner-up in All England Open, and reached in to the bronze medal match at the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000 and 2004. During her career, she was ranked as world No. 1 in the mixed doubles and No. 2 in the women's doubles. After retiring from the tournament, she became the national junior coach. Wei Yili (; born 24 June 1982) is a former badminton player from China. Career A women's doubles specialist, since 2001 Wei has competed on the world circuit in partnership with a variety of her fellow countrywomen, but most often with Zhang Jiewen, Zhao Tingting or Zhang Yawen. A member of China's perennial world champion Uber Cup teams, in the biggest events for individual players (such as the BWF World Championships, the All-England Championships, and the Olympic Games) Wei and her partners have usually been overshadowed by China's two dominant women's doubles pairs, Gao Ling and Huang Sui, and Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen. Zhang Jiewen
Zhang Jiewen (; born 4 January 1981) is a Chinese former badminton player. Career One of China's most successful women's doubles specialists, Zhang has won some thirty international titles, the vast majority of them in partnership with Yang Wei, during the first decade of the 21st century. They have shared world dominance almost equally with their compatriot adversaries Gao Ling and Huang Sui. One or the other pair has captured all of the BWF World Championships held since 2000, with Zhang and Yang winning in both 2005 and 2007 by defeating Gao and Huang in the finals. Jiang Xuelian
Jiang Xuelian (, born 1 May 1979) is a former Chinese badminton player, who later represented Canada. Jiang was joined the Chongqing badminton team in 1993. In 1997, she entered the Sichuan Institute of Sports & Technology, and at the same year she was selected to join the national team. In 2001, she competed at the IBF World Championships in Seville, Spain, and won the women's doubles bronze with Chen Lin. She was retired from the national team in 2004, and in 2009, she started to represent Canada. Chen Lin (badminton)
Chen Lin ( zh, c=陈林, p=, born March 7, 1977) is a former female Chinese badminton player. She starts her career in badminton in her own province - Anhua County Badminton School in 1986 until made it into the first national team in 1999. She was a solid choice for China during late 90's and early 2000 in women's doubles with Jiang Xuelian, winning several high profile tournaments such as Denmark Open, Hong Kong Open and German Open. She won the bronze medal at the 2001 Badminton World Championships in the women's doubles together with Jiang. Besides women's doubles, Chen Lin is also an established mixed doubles player, winning Dutch Open twice with Chen Qiqiu and also China Open with Liu Yong. Jens Dyrløv Eriksen (born 30 December 1969) is a badminton player from Denmark. He competed in four consecutive Olympic Games from 1996 to 2008, and won a mixed doubles bronze medal in 2004 partnered with Mette Schjoldager. At the World Championships, Eriksen won two silvers in 1995 and 1997, and also two bronze medals in 2001 and 2006. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racket (sports equipment), racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net (device), net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side).
