2000 Big West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2000 Big West Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 9–11 at Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada. Utah State defeated in the championship game, 71–66, to obtain the second Big West Conference men's basketball tournament championship in school history. The Aggies participated in the 2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament after earning the conference's automatic bid. Lawlor Events Center
Lawlor Events Center is northern Nevada's largest multi-purpose arena. It is located in Reno, Nevada at the intersection of North Virginia Street and 15th Street on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. It is named after former athletic director, baseball, basketball and football coach Jake Lawlor. It was built in 1983 and has a capacity of 12,000 including 11,536 multi-purpose seats. 1999–2000 Utah State Aggies Men's Basketball Team
The 1999–2000 Utah State Aggies men's basketball team represented Utah State University in the 1999–2000 college basketball season. This was head coach Stew Morrill's 2nd season at Utah State. The Aggies played their home games at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum and were members of the Big West Conference. They finished the season 28–6, 16–0 to capture the regular season championship. They also won the Big West tournament to earn an automatic bid to the 2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as No. 12 seed in the South Region. Stew Morrill
Stewart Morrill (born July 25, 1952) is an American college basketball coach and the former head coach of the Utah State University men's basketball team. Biography Morrill was an All-American at Ricks College and a two-time All-Big Sky selection for Gonzaga University. He started his coaching career in 1974 as an assistant at Gonzaga, and continued at the University of Montana under Mike Montgomery in 1978. In the spring of 1986, he was promoted to head coach of the Grizzlies, and led them to an NCAA berth in 1991. Morrill coached at Colorado State University from 1991 to 1998 before resigning to go to Utah State. Morrill and Utah State gained national attention in March 2001 for their 77–68 upset of Ohio State in overtime in the NCAA tournament. On January 17, 2008, in an 82–78 victory over Boise State, Morrill logged his 226th Aggie victory, passing E. Lowell Romney to become the winningest coach in Utah State basketball history. Shawn James Daniels (born May 14, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the Philippine Basketball Association with Air21, Burger King, and Talk 'N Text and last played with the London Lightning basketball team in National Basketball League of Canada. High school and college career During his senior campaign, Daniels led Highland High School to a 28–5 record en route to the Valley Championship. His senior averages of 24 points and 13 rebounds had him making the all-league and all-conference selection. He was also a two-time Player of the Year. As a freshman for Bakersfield Junior College, he averaged 17.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. During his sophomore season, he scored more than 20 points thirteen times to garner averages of 17.7 points and 11.7 rebounds. The 2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in Single-elimination tournament, single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball.
