The Sweet Hereafter (film)
''The Sweet Hereafter'' is a 1997 Canadian drama film written and directed by Atom Egoyan, adapted from the 1991 novel by Russell Banks. It tells the story of a school bus accident in a small town that kills 14 children. A class-action lawsuit ensues, proving divisive in the community and becoming tied with personal and family issues. It stars an ensemble cast featuring Ian Holm, Sarah Polley, Maury Chaykin, Bruce Greenwood, Tom McCamus, Gabrielle Rose, Arsinée Khanjian and Alberta Watson. The film, inspired by the 1989 Alton, Texas, bus crash, was filmed in British Columbia and Ontario, incorporating a film score with medieval music influences and references to the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Frankie Goes to Hollywood were an English synth-pop band formed in Liverpool in 1980. Christian Duguay (born March 30, 1956) is a Canadian film director. Career Duguay graduated from the Film Production program of Concordia University, in 1979. That year, his film ''Piece Interrompue Pour Piano Sauvage'', together with Harold Trépanier, took the Best Cinematography award at the 11th Canadian Student Film Festival. He began his professional career as a cameraman and jack-of-all-trades, working in documentaries, commercials and music videos. He became known as an expert with the Steadicam and shot many movies of the week in the United States. ''The Assignment'' is a 1997 spy action thriller film directed by Christian Duguay and starring Aidan Quinn (in two roles), with Donald Sutherland and Ben Kingsley. The film, written by Dan Gordon and Sabi H. Shabtai, is set mostly in the late 1980s and deals with a CIA plan to use Quinn's character to masquerade as the Venezuelan terrorist Carlos the Jackal. ''Artemisia'' is a 1997 French-German-Italian biographical film about Artemisia Gentileschi, the female Italian Baroque painter. The film was directed by Agnès Merlet, and stars Valentina Cervi and Michel Serrault. Plot Seventeen-year-old Artemisia Gentileschi (Valentina Cervi), the daughter of Orazio Gentileschi, a renowned Italian painter, exhibits artistic talent, and is encouraged by her father, who has no sons and wishes his art to survive after him.
