1988 United States House Of Representatives Elections In Hawaii
The 1988 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1988 which coincided with the election of George H. W. Bush as president. Although Bush won with a strong majority, his Republican Party lost a net of two seats to the Democratic Party, slightly increasing the Democratic majority in the House. It was the first time since 1960 that an incoming president's party lost seats in the House. As of 2021, this is the last congressional election in which Republicans won a house seat in Hawaii for a full term and the last time they won a seat in Vermont. Foster Lonnie Campbell Jr. (born January 6, 1947) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party from the U.S. state of Louisiana. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Louisiana Public Service Commission. He served in the Louisiana State Senate from 1976 to 2002. Robert Nelson Clement (born September 23, 1943) is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the United States House of Representatives, representing Tennessee, from 1988 until 2003, when he retired to run (unsuccessfully) for the United States Senate.
