1978 Commonwealth Games
The 1978 Commonwealth Games were held in Edmonton, Alberta from 3 to 12 August 1978, two years after the 1976 Summer Olympics were held in Montreal, Quebec. They were boycotted by Nigeria, in protest at New Zealand's sporting contacts with apartheid-era South Africa, as well as by Uganda, in protest at alleged Canadian hostility towards the government of Idi Amin. The Bid Election was held at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. This was the first Commonwealth Games where a computerised system was used to handle ticket sales. These were the first Commonwealth Games to be named ''Commonwealth Games'', having dropped ''British''. The Games were opened by Queen Elizabeth II for the first time since becoming Queen in 1952. Queen Elizabeth II

Ray Stevens (born 23 June 1951) is a former English badminton player and multiple National champion. Nora Perry (badminton)
Nora Perry MBE ( Gardner, born 1954) is an English former badminton player noted for her anticipation, racket control, and tactical astuteness. A doubles specialist, Perry won numerous major titles, with a variety of partners, from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. These included six All-England mixed doubles and two All-England women's doubles championships. Michael 'Mike' Graham Tredgett (born 1949) is a former English badminton player who specialized in doubles and played at the world level for more than a decade, winning numerous international men's doubles and mixed doubles titles. Badminton career Tredgett won five medals in the World Championships between 1977 and 1983. Jane Webster (born 2 August 1956), now known as Jane Sutton, is a retired English badminton player noted for her strong and consistent shot-making. John David Eddy (born 1944) is a retired badminton player from England who won national and international titles from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. Career Eddy represented England and won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles, at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.
