Hong Kong First Division League
The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941. Competition format Each team plays the other teams in the division twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. The top two teams in the league are offered promotion to the Premier League while the bottom two are relegated to the Hong Kong Second Division. South China Athletic Association (known simply as South China, SCAA, ) is a Hong Kong professional football club that competes in the Hong Kong First Division, the second-tier league in Hong Kong football league system. The club is historically one of the most successful football clubs in Hong Kong, having won a record 41 First Division titles, a record 31 Senior Shields, a record 10 FA Cups and 3 League Cups. Kwong Wah Athletic Association () are a football club that currently playing in the Hong Kong Second Division. The team's home matches are played throughout Hong Kong. History Kwong Wah were formed in 1936 by a group of coworkers at CLP Group. Among them, there were local and foreign players including future star Hau Yung Seng. The year after their formation, they won the 1937–38 Hong Kong Junior Shield as well as promotion into the Hong Kong Second Division. The club reached the Hong Kong First Division in 1947. For two for their first three seasons in the top flight, Kwong Wah finished at the bottom of the table but because there was no relegation during that time, they remained. In the early 1950s, Kwong Wah were sponsored by Shanghai businessmen including Xu Wenkui. Seiko Sports Association () were one of the most popular and successful football teams in the history of football in Hong Kong. The team withdrew from the Hong Kong First Division League after the 1985–86 season. History Seiko was a team sponsored and named by the agents of Seiko Corporation who entered the team into the Hong Kong Third Division in 1970. They finished runners up in the Third Division (B) League with a record of 26 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss from 28 matches and won promotion into the Second Division in the following season.
