1972 NCAA College Division Soccer Tournament
The 1972 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship (then named the NCAA College Division Men's Soccer Championship) was the inaugural Division II men's college soccer tournament held by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Since 1959, all schools had competed in a single division. The SIU Edwardsville Cougars won their first NCAA title in any sport by defeating the Oneonta Red Dragons in the championship game, 1-0. The final match was played on December 9, 1972, in Edwardsville, Illinois, at SIUE's Cougar Field, which also hosted the Division I College Cup in 1970 and 1975. SIU Edwardsville Cougars Men's Soccer
The SIU Edwardsville Cougars men's soccer team represents Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in the Missouri Valley Conference of NCAA Division I soccer. The Cougars play their home matches on Bob Guelker Field at Ralph Korte Stadium located in the southwest corner of the SIUE campus in Edwardsville, Illinois. It was announced on June 2, 2017, that the Cougars' men's soccer and wrestling teams would become affiliate members of the Mid-American Conference beginning in the 2018 season. Through the cooperative efforts of the MVC and the MAC, the Cougars soccer team made the move a year earlier than originally announced and played the 2017 season in the MAC. On November 30, 2018, it was reported that Mario Sanchez had resigned to accept the position of director of youth development and community relations for Louisville City FC of the United Soccer League. Adelphi Panthers Men's Soccer
The Adelphi Panthers are the athletic teams that represent Adelphi University, located in Garden City, Long Island, New York, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The university fields 23 varsity sports programs, and the Panthers compete as members of the Northeast-10 Conference in 22 of their 23 sports. The women's bowling team competes within the East Coast Conference as an affiliate. Adelphi has been a member of the NE10 since 2009, after joining from the ECC.
